MINIMUM TRAINING & EXPERIENCE

Graduation from high school, and 1 year experience in construction and building maintenance work; turf maintenance to include irrigation systems or equivalent work which provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities may be considered. Must possess a valid Florida Driver's License and have and maintain an acceptable, safe driving record.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:
Must be able to use hand tools, read simple blueprints and schematics and operate light to heavy equipment. Must have a minimum of 3 years' experience in the trade skills of carpentry and tile work. Must have some experience in electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and masonry. May be required to obtain a restrictive spray license. May be required to obtain and retain a Florida Commercial Driver's License.
EMERGENCY DECLARATION STATUS
Code 1 - Essential Employees may be required to work during an undeclared emergency and/or declared emergency. On an incident by incident basis, the employee's Department Head will make the determination as to who will be required to work.
GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB
Under general supervision, performs all maintenance and construction trades and light electrical work in the Parks & Recreation Department's buildings and facilities. Reports to the assigned supervisor.
SPECIFIC DUTIES & RESPONSIBLITIES
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Work involves the repairing of or leading in the planning and construction of fences, gates, walks, walls, buildings, pavilions and gazebos using carpentry or masonry tools.
Responsible for all plumbing and irrigation work in and around all department buildings and facilities.
Performs painting of buildings, tennis courts, basketball courts and other surfaces as needed.
Installs and maintains playground equipment, picnic areas and other amenities in the department.
Uses light or heavy equipment for land clearing and grading. Repairs roofs on park buildings. Assembles equipment such as bleachers or prefabricated buildings or pavilions.
Uses light equipment with attachments such as mowers, fertilizer and seed spreader, aerator, and box blade.
May be required to transport equipment or stage.
Required to complete any special assignments which are given by the supervisor/foreman.
Performs groundskeeping duties as needed, such as landscaping, preparing fields for play, trim trees or shrubs, maintain flower beds, police grounds and dump trash cans, mow, weed-eat or edge, or prepare parks and facilities for special events.
Performs herbicide & pesticide spraying as required.
Responsible for installing and maintaining irrigation systems.
Inputs information to supervisor for daily and weekly schedules and budget preparation.

Life Insurance: The City of Palm Bay provides each employee with life insurance in the amount of one time their annual base salary at no cost. Additional coverage is available at the employee's cost up to the Guaranteed Issue amount of $250,000.
Dependent/Spouse Life Insurance: The City of Palm Bay provides each employee with dependent/spouse life insurance in the amount of $5,000 per dependent at no cost. Additional coverage is available at the employee's cost.
Short Term Disability: Coverage pays 66 2/3% of employee's annual base salary during a short-term disability period not to exceed 26 weeks.
Long Term Disability: Coverage pays 66 2/3% of employee's salary at time of disability after a 180 consecutive day waiting period.
Defined Contribution Retirement Plan: City contributes a base of 3%. Employees may contribute up to 6% and the City will match the employees contribution.
Holidays: 10 holidays,1 birthday holiday and 1 anniversary holiday.
Paid Leave: Accrue 96 hours of vacation per year, accrued hours increase after 5 years of service based on years of service. Accrue 96 hours of sick leave per year.
Tuition Reimbursement: Upon completion of the initial probationary period, employees are eligible for tuition and book reimbursement for college level courses for Associate's, Bachelor's and Master's Degrees. (Currently frozen due to budget)
