The Los Angeles County Office of Education is seeking qualified candidates to apply for the position of Maintenance Worker.
This position repairs and maintains the Los Angeles County Office of Education (LACOE) facilities, grounds and equipment; and provides audiovisual equipment setup at LACOE events.
The Well Qualified Candidate Will Possess the Following
Knowledge:
- Methods and practices of building maintenance and repair
- Plumbing, electrical repair, painting, carpentry, and HVAC maintenance
- Use and purpose of tools and electrical equipment related to building repair and maintenance
- Standard safety practices as applied to building maintenance and repair
- Steps to setup and take down audiovisual equipment
- Critical Thinking – Analytically and logically evaluating information, propositions, and claims
- Mechanical Insight – Comprehending how mechanical, electrical, and structural systems operate and interact
- Reading Comprehension – Understanding and using written information
- General Physical Ability – Using strength, endurance, flexibility, balance, and coordination
- Professional & Technical Expertise – Applying technical subject matter to the job
- Using Technology – Working with electronic hardware and software applications
- Adaptability – Responding positively to change and modifying behavior as the situation requires
- Safety Focus – Showing vigilance and care in identifying and addressing health risks and safety hazards
- Self-Management – Showing personal organization, self-discipline, and dependability
- Listening – Fully comprehending spoken communication
- Oral Communication – Engaging effectively in dialogue
- Customer Focus – Attending to the needs and expectation of customers

Experience: Two years of experience in maintenance, construction, or building trades, preferably performing duties in painting, plumbing, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning, carpentry and electrical trades.
Additional Requirements: Possession of a valid basic class "C" California driver's license and proof of insurability and the availability of private transportation or the ability to obtain transportation between job sites are required. Incumbents in this classification are required to lift, and/or carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds without assistance and lift, carry, and/or push objects weighing up to 100 pounds with assistance. May be required to respond to emergencies involving building maintenance after hours including weekends and holidays.
Selection ProcessCandidates who meet the minimum requirements above will be invited to participate in an examination that may consist of a Multiple Choice Exam and a Structured Interview.
