SMR is a leader in the municipal recycling industry. SMR was established in 2003 and soon became the cornerstone of the New York City curbside recycling program. In addition to NYC, SMR now serves several NJ municipalities and counties, and in recent years has expanded operations to Florida. We are an operations-intensive business, processing large tonnages at multiple facilities, producing sorted commodities for the recycled materials market.

We are currently looking for Maintenance Mechanics to join our facility in Sarasota, FL.
Job Summary
Repairs and maintains machinery and mechanical equipment such as pneumatic tools, conveyor systems, and production machines and equipment by performing the duties outlined below.
Major Job Responsibilities/Duties
- Observes mechanical equipment in operation to locate causes of trouble
- Diagnoses equipment failures and provide recommendations for proper repair course of action
- Dismantles equipment to remove and replace defective parts
- Adjusts functional parts of equipment and control instruments
- Ensure that all equipment complies with OEMs and Regulatory Agencies operating standards, Ensures proper equipment lubrication in compliance with OEMs lubrication schedule
- Follows Preventive Maintenance Work Order procedures
- Perform other duties as assigned

While performing the duties of this job, the employee should understand the high impact this position holds to maintain cost control, equipment reliability and performance. Employee will be accountable for effective and efficient repair part gathering, using proper identification of parts needed and ordering procedures.
Job Qualifications
Educational Background
- Technical school preferred
Job Related Experience
- 1 year minimum mechanical repair related experience in a heavy industrial setting or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Working conditions/physical demands
While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to climb or balance and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Must be able to work outside under extreme temperature conditions. (Heat, cold, snow etc.)

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; outside weather conditions and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
