Summary
This National Guard position is for a SURFACE MAINTENANCE MECHANIC SUPERVISOR, Position Description Number D1291000 and is part of the NJ CSMS B, National Guard.
The purpose of this position is to supervise workers directly or through subordinate leaders and/or supervisors in accomplishing work of the function.

Duties
As a SURFACE MAINTENANCE MECHANIC SUPERVISOR, WS-5801-11, you will:
  • Plan and establish overall leave schedules
  • Plan use of subordinate workers, equipment, facilities, and materials on a week-to-week or month-to-month basis.
  • Ensure the employees wear appropriate safety equipment
  • Redirect individual workers and resources to accomplish unanticipated work
  • Assign tasks to be performed based on readiness and explains work requirements, methods, and procedures.
  • Investigate work related problems such as excessive costs or low productivity and determines causes
  • Prepare and participate in various types of readiness evaluations, inspections, and command support exercises
  • Performs non-supervisory work, such as, transporting equipment, performing maintenance tasks, etc.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

MILITARY REQUIREMENTS:
Compatible military grade and assignment required prior to the effective date of placement. This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard. Applicants who are not currently a member of the National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership. Appointments may require the selected candidate to be assigned to a *military unit* compatible with the full-time Military Technician (Dual Status) position.
*Military Unit* The unit by which the individual is employed as a Military Technician (Dual Status) employee; or a unit that the individual is employed as a Military Technician (Dual Status) employee to support. (Guidance established by NJ HRO-J1)
Qualifications
GENERAL EXPERIENCE:
  • Explain manuals and work procedures
  • Organize assignments for subordinates
  • Prepare production records, work records, and reports
  • Estimate material and manpower needed for specific jobs

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Must have 36 months of the following specialized experience:
  • Journeyman level knowledge
  • Adapt existing equipment and techniques to new situations
  • Knowledge of various lines of work performed by this function
  • Plan, direct, and organize work assignments for lower grade personnel
  • Review of work requirements and establish priorities to meet deadlines
  • Communicate knowledge of general supervisory concepts and knowledge of shop processes
