Summary Repairs and maintains machinery and mechanical equipment such as engines, motors, pneumatic tools, conveyor systems, and production machines and equipment by performing the following duties.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following. Other duties may be assigned and employee may be temporarily assigned to other departments and/or duties. Employees may not be trained on all tasks at time of hire, but on an “as needed” basis.
- Observes mechanical devices in operation and use proper troubleshooting techniques to determine root cause of equipment failure.
- Dismantles devices to gain access to and remove defective parts.
- Examines form and texture of parts to detect imperfections.
- Inspects used parts to determine changes in dimensional requirements.
- Adjusts functional parts of devices and control instruments.
- Repairs or replaces defective parts.
- Installs special functional and structural parts in devices.
- Lubricates and cleans parts.
- Start devices to test their performance.
- Sets up and operates lathe, drill press, grinder, and other metalworking tools to make and repair parts.
- Initiates purchase order for parts and machines.
- Repairs electrical equipment.
- General plant cleanup, including but not limited to, sweeping with push broom and vacuuming warehouse floors, cleaning hoppers and taking waste to the landfill.
- Picking up trash on plant property
- Painting with a paint brush, roller or sprayer
- Cutting or pulling weeds
- Operating the water and/or dump truck
- Spotting empty trailers at loading docks with yard truck
- Moving loaded trailers from loading docks to trailer yard
- Conducting cycle counts (physical inventory) of finished products and raw materials
- Filing paperwork for maintenance
- Collecting samples from the production process areas
- Operating a forklift for the maintenance, production and shipping departments
- Conducting safety audits (looking for unsafe conditions or unsafe acts)
- Assist with data entry
- Assist with quality analysis and equipment calibrations
- Assist with equipment monitoring and inspections
- Help safety manager prepare safety training and present training to other employees..
- Attend extra training classes
- Capable of working on high places and confined spaces
