Department Overview:
The Americas Division (“AD”) was established in the Sumitomo Mitsui Trust Bank, Limited, New York Branch) (“SMTBNY”) to perform corporate functions and supervise U.S. entities. Established under the AD are the “Global Banking Unit (“GBU”), Americas Division” and “Global Markets Unit (“GMU”), Americas Division” which performs business functions. Acting as back office to the Branch’s Global Banking Unit, Loan Operations Department (“LOP”) is responsible for performing operational and administrative duties for booking and maintaining a wide range of credit-based products upon closing and throughout the life of transactions. The Department also provides certain check and balance points.
Position Overview:
Fully knowledgeable on the day-to-day activities, resolves complex issues where expertise is required to interpret policies, guidelines, and practice. May be considered a subject matter expert for one or more functions or processes. Focus on operational execution and occasional broader planning within areas of expertise. May have direct report subordinate staff.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assists Vice President and Assistant Vice Presidents of Loan Operations with coordinating and approving the daily activities in Loan Operations Department. Helps monitor and anticipate the work volume, set priorities and distribute work among subordinates. Ensure that all work is processed and documented in compliance with the binding agreement(s) and Branch’s policies and procedures.
- Ensures data integrity of all systems and files in support of the operations conducted and that appropriate audit trail is established.
- Trains the subordinates and assess their work for accuracy and timeliness and makes recommendations to Department Manager on staffing-related issues.
- Helps coordinate workflow and information flow between Loan Operations and other departments in the Bank.
- Identifies and reports operational irregularities to Department Manager without delay and takes initiative in resolving exceptions.
- Assists Department Manager, Vice President and Assistant Vice Presidents of Loan Operations with establishing and implementing new workflow and/or procedures to improve Department’s performance.
- Assists Department Manager, Vice President and Assistant Vice Presidents of Loan Operations in updating various manuals in the Department.
- Assists Department Manager and Vice President in reviewing non-exempt staff's job performance.
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by management.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in business, economics, accounting or its equivalent with 3+ years of related experience.
- 2+ years of supervisory experience.
- Solid knowledge of accounting theory/bookkeeping and credit instruments.
- Good mathematical aptitude.
- Proficiency with PC in business-related applications.
- Good oral and written communication skills.
- Good organizational skills.
