The Position

This recruitment is being conducted to establish an eligibility list for future full-time, part-time, limited-term, and extra help vacancies at any Napa County Library locations: American Canyon, Calistoga, Napa,or Yountville, for up to one year.
Bilingual Spanish/English applicants are always encouraged to apply; assignments for the Calistoga Library require bilingual Spanish/English abilities.
Permanent Full-time positions are allocated, benefited positions working 40 hours per week.
Permanent Part-time positions are allocated, benefited positions working less than 40 hours per week.
Extra help assignments are non-benefited and may be used for on-call needs up to 29 hours per week (up to 1,000 hours per fiscal year). Extra help employees are not eligible for promotional opportunities open to regular part-time and full-time employees.
Napa County employees (permanent part-time and full-time) assigned to positions that require bilingual communication skills and who pass the bilingual assessments are eligible to receive a bilingual pay differential of up to $100 biweekly in addition to their regular pay.
The Napa County Library and all four locations are an integral part of the communities they serve. Their mission is to enrich people's lives with books and information, which they accomplish by providing a wide assortment of materials tailored to community interests; public access to technology such as computers, wireless internet access, and printing; innovative and dynamic programming for everyone including author events, reading programs, music workshops, DIY and craft workshops, STEM events, cooking, dancing, and so much more! Napa County Libraries are the hub of each of our communities, a place where all are welcome.
Library Associates plan and lead library programs and events, assist patrons of all ages with reference questions and computer use and provide overall information services. Library Associates have substantial interaction with patrons, and successful candidates will have a customer service-driven mindset.
The Library Associate I is the entry-level classification in this paraprofessional series. Initially, incumbents perform the less complex tasks and work under close supervision. As knowledge, skills, and abilities are gained, incumbents may assume greater responsibilities and may be eligible to promote to level II, dependent upon operational need.
Position Requirements
Experience and Education:
Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills, and abilities would be:
Experience: Two years of sub-professional library experience,
Education: Equivalent to completion of two years of college.


OR

Experience: None required, but must have the following education:
Education: Equivalent to graduation from an accredited four-year college or university.
License or Certificate*: Possession of a valid California Driver's License.
  • Any license, certification, or registration required for this position shall be maintained (i.e., active and in good standing) at all times during employment with Napa County. For continued employment with Napa County, you must maintain such license, certification, or registration to meet the minimum qualifications of this position.

Week of April 22, 2024. Subject matter experts (SMEs) will review responses to the supplemental questions. Those who pass the SME review will be invited to the oral panel interviews.

Tentatively scheduled for the week of May 6, 2024.

Establish Eligible List
By May 20, 2024. Applicants who pass the oral panel interviews will be placed on the eligibility list may be considered for current and positions for up to one year.

SALARY -
Salaries are based on a five-step range. Appointments are usually made at the beginning step with advances occurring at six months and the completion of each year thereafter. Salary rates are reviewed annually.
