- Acts as Legal Intern for the Ohio Department of Agriculture (ODA) Legal Office
- Under direction of agency Legal Office staff, conducts legal research of case & statutory law, constitutional, state &/or federal rules, opinions &/or orders on behalf of ODA divisions
- Under direction of agency Legal staff, drafts and prepares various legal documents regarding agency operations, including briefs, position papers, notices of intended enforcement, director's orders, responses to public records requests
- Assists Legal Office staff with fulfilling public records requests including but not limited to reviewing records for relevancy/accuracy, redacting personal identifying information, auditing redacted paperwork
Performs other related duties as assigned:
- Uses computer to write position papers & reports
- Prepares confidential correspondence
- Handles sensitive telephone calls, maintains logs, records & files
- Travels to attend meetings & training as requested; per Deputy Director and Chief Legal Counsel
What Will You Gain:
- Learn Ohio’s Sunshine Laws and review public records
- Perform legal research and draft memorandum to find solutions to legal issues arising from ODA’s divisions
- Learn fundamental skills for government attorneys such as reviewing investigative work to determine if ODA has sufficient evidence to proceed to an Administrative Hearing and drafting Notices of Opportunity for Hearing
- Observe administrative hearings and board meetings
- Gain a better understanding of ODA’s work through observing meetings with each of ODA’s divisions and participating in ride-alongs when possible
**This is a full time paid summer internship. This position is in the office five days a week at 8995 E. Main St., Reynoldsburg, OH 43068. This is not a remote or hybrid position.**
