Work Arrangement
This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to GM Global Technical Center in Warren, Michigan three times per week, at minimum.
The Role
The Legal Assistant position is an integral part of the Legal Staff. Legal Assistants collaborate and partner with our in-house Counsel to meet business needs. This role will coordinate and participate in all aspects of discovery, research, analysis, interpretation, consulting with partners, clients, outside counsel and other business partners.
GM Legal Staff’s objectives are to deliver timely, best-in-class business legal services in close collaboration to accomplish their objectives while simultaneously protecting GM’s high standards of legal, ethical, and business integrity.
What You’ll Do
Intellectual property patent portfolio management, including portfolio management database interaction and maintenance, including client, in-house, and outside counsel interaction
Conduct thorough research and analysis of Intellectual Property laws, regulations, and case law
Assist attorneys with researching, drafting, and filing of legal documents
Coordinate and participate in discovery, research, analysis, interpretation of information in collaboration with Counsel
Monitor and manage deadlines associated with legal documents, court filings, and other tasks
Draft relevant correspondence and responses to inquiry
Conduct due diligence and assist with Intellectual Property-related transactions and agreements
Additional Description
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
Experienced paralegal in Intellectual Property portfolio management, maintenance and prosecution, litigation, and transactions and agreements in in law firm and/or in-house practice
Paralegal or Legal Assistant Degree or Certificate
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
Ability to establish rapport, both internally and externally, and contribute to an environment of continuous improvement
Demonstrated experience as an initiative-taker with excellent ability to organize resources and establish priorities.
Possess a high degree of accuracy and meticulous attention to detail
