Unit Paid Faculty teach additional courses on an as needed basis
The University of Virginia Department of Drama seeks applications to fill part-time, non-renewable, non-tenure track Lecturer positions in Dance for Fall 2023 & Spring 2024. Preferred candidates will have expertise in teaching beginning to intermediate/advanced movement practice classes in non-western forms, modern/contemporary and/or jazz dance, which may include practices from one or more of the following areas: African diasporic forms, Latin jazz, classic jazz, vernacular jazz, musical theatre dance, amongst others. Course load will be 1-3 (1-credit) courses for the academic year with compensation at $6,000 per course.
Candidates will also have the option to create a piece of choreography with students for the Fall or Spring dance concert for additional compensation of $2000. The Dance Program strives to place course material in its socio-cultural and historical contexts. We seek artists/scholars who have a strong commitment to progressive pedagogical practices and creative research, who will contribute to the ongoing diversity, equity, and inclusivity efforts of the Drama Department and prioritize the creation of an inclusive learning environment. Candidates are expected to possess strong interpersonal skills and an interest in engaging undergraduate students in a dance minor program in creative practice. Teaching experience is required. A terminal degree is desired but not required.
