JOB SUMMARY:
This position is responsible for oversight of day-to-day medical clinic operations, including supervision of Medical Assistants and medical receptionists, assuring adequate clinician support, liaison to lab services, assuring smooth and efficient clinic flow, managing patient feedback, application of infection control policies, management of supplies, oversight of clinic budget, development of clinical policies and procedures related to clinic operations. Regular attendee at COT, Mock JCAHO, MAPIT, Safety Committee, and other meetings as assigned by supervisor
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assures that clinical support staff members work as a team to provide a coordinated and efficient clinic visit for patients receiving medical services
- Provides active support to Medical Assistants
- Provides active support of Medical Assistants and lab personnel within the clinic site
- Assists other members of patient care team
- Completes urgent referrals the same day when covering for Referral Coordinator
- Assists Referral Coordinator with obtaining consult notes.
- Implements and maintains under guidance of supervisor the appropriate policies and procedures to assure that support of clinical care delivery complies with external review agencies (OSHA, MOSH, JCAHO)
- Keeps staff up to date on existing policies and procedures
- Assures environment of care is within company standards
- Assists with patient emergencies in the clinic
- Handles patient intake/clinic flow
- Responds to chart coming from intake area and checks patient in
- Takes information regarding chief complaint.
- Performs EKGs
- Assists in implementing the plan of care by collecting specimens, administering treatments and injections, assisting with procedures and gyn exams, recording changes in health status, and assisting clinicians and nurses in the delivery of care
- Assists patients through flow of visit
- Assists patients with appointments and referrals
- Assists clinicians by performing follow up on visits: phoning or faxing prescriptions
- Relays patient problems and concerns to nursing or clinicians, and takes action
- Tracks data and participates in departmental PDSA cycles at the request of Director of Nursing and/or Site/Clinic Manager
- Collects and records data regarding vital signs
- Documents medical data, and witnesses consents.
- Assures adequate medical equipment and supplies are available
- Prepares chart with labs. Request and pulls other information as requested by clinician
- Completes lab requisitions and labels tubes.
- Documents date, time, and signature on progress note
- Assures adequate MA staffing to meet the needs of the clinic
- Orients new MA staff and completes initial competency review
- Relays patient problems and concerns to nursing or clinicians, and takes action

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
Required: High school diploma or G.E.D. and satisfactory completion of a Medical Assistant school.
Required: Six months of experience. On site preceptorship may substitute for education.
