Job Description
Duties and Responsibilities
Performs preventative maintenance and repairs on bulldozers, track loaders, trash compactors, excavators, off road trucks, motorgrader, pan, vibratory roller, farm tractors, mowing equipment, and other related mechanical devices. Performs preventative maintenance and repairs on highway trucks, pick-up trucks, and trailers. Operates a service truck on and off site to perform equipment refueling, daily maintenance, and other mechanic duties. Responsible for keeping the shop area and service vehicles clean.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES:
Repairing pumps, motors, hydraulic systems, electric systems, waste containers and other apparatus equipment related to landfill operations. Performs welding, cutting, and fabrication. Performs related and other duties as assigned. Basic computer skills such as ordering parts and supplies online from vendors, operating maintenance software, using e-mail, & e-learning skills preferred. Use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Working knowledge of a variety of tools, materials, and equipment used in the maintenance and repair of heavy equipment and landfill related equipment. Good knowledge in the techniques and methods involved in troubleshooting and solving mechanical difficulties. Ability to read and interpret a variety of equipment service manuals and to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Ability to operate heavy equipment and a variety of support vehicles. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, co-workers, and the public. Working knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions related to assigned duties.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions. Must be able to perform very heavy work exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally; 50 pounds of force frequently; and 20 pounds constantly. Must possess the visual acuity to operate heavy equipment and support vehicles in a safe manner to perform repairs, read gauges, and make written records.
Desired Education and Experience
Graduation from high school or GED equivalency. Two years related experience in heavy equipment preventative maintenance and/or repairs and some equipment operation experience.
