Job description

The Facilities Business Line provides building-focused architectural and engineering services to a variety of commercial, industrial, and institutional clients. We provide analysis, evaluation, plans, and design for facility projects that involve rehabilitation, expansion and new construction. We provide services in mechanical/HVAC, electrical/lighting, structural, security, data and voice communications, energy management, audio visual, civil/utility, site development, and architectural disciplines. Our projects are often focused on sustainability and energy efficiency including LEED® and other green building certifications.
We are seeking a Mechanical Engineering Org Manager in our New York, NY office. Candidate will be responsible for supervising the design of heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning (HVAC) systems; plumbing systems; fluid distribution systems; fire protection systems, site utilities and multi-disciplinary coordination. The candidate will also be responsible for project management responsibilities including project schedule, financial performance, daily monitoring of projects within the group both for public and private sector clients. Additional responsibilities will include the business development and participation in meetings, RFP development and other business opportunities in the public and private sectors.
Experience required includes mechanical design calculations, drawing and specification preparation, staff supervision, project management, code reviews, systems design and applications, report preparation, economic evaluations, life-cycle cost analyses, energy conservation, equipment selection, specifications, construction estimating, bidding documents, construction administration, start-up, trouble shooting, and commissioning of M/P/FP systems.
Work also involves field surveys of MP/FP systems, testing of existing systems, client meetings, and energy studies. Projects involve public works, mass transit, commercial, educational, and health-care facilities in the public and private sector.Responsibilities will include:
• Lead mechanical design teams throughout a project duration. Direct calculation, equipment selection, and documentation efforts.
• Act as mechanical subject matter expert in evaluation of project opportunities, design approach, and coordination with other disciplines.
• Coordinate the review of the scope of work between engineering teams.
• Design various M/P/FP systems.
• Promote daily interaction and collaboration on cross-functional teams across multiple disciplines
• Mentor junior staff.
• Provide construction Administration services including shop drawing review, contractor relations, and site surveys
• Lead and participate in meetings clients, state agencies, city agencies, utility service representatives and project teams.
• Deliver projects on time and within client budgets.
• Closely monitor performance metrics against established key performance indicators and provides weekly and monthly reports of project performance.
• Continually monitors and manages costs including procurements, labor, and other costs against the project budget. Continually reports progress as required to record the advancement of the project.
• Perform site survey of existing system conditions.
• Deliver projects in compliance with client and company quality control procedures and engineering guidelines
• Participate on project teams in an active production and QA/QC role in accordance with GF standards.
• Prepare of project specifications.
• Prepare of construction cost estimates.
• Perform quality work that promotes client retention.
• Author project-related correspondence to consultants, contractors, Authority officials, and other agencies.
• Coordinate construction documents and application process for filing with NYC Department of Buildings (DOB).
Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Licensed Mechanical Professional Engineer in NY.
  • Up-to-date NCEES Record a plus.
  • Licensed Mechanical Professional Engineer in NJ, CT, and/or MA a plus.
  • LEED Certification, CEM Certification, or CxA Certification a plus.
  • Minimum 9-years of experience in mechanical engineering consulting including experience with clients and public agencies and the private sector.
  • Experience supervising staff required.
  • A thorough understanding of M/P/FP building codes and construction standards.
  • Computer proficiency in applications within MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, MS Project).
  • Knowledge of Autocad, BIM, and eQuest Energy Modeling software required.
  • Excellent writing and oral communication skills required
  • Demonstrated understanding of technical and contractual aspects of design and design-build projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex budgets and schedules.
  • Successfully complete and pass a background check.
