Job Title:Lead Laboratory Assistant
Reports To: Patient Service Center Supervisor
Job Summary: The Lead Laboratory Assistant role will be responsible for motivating and leading our team members on a daily basis and be a resource for any information about registration and phlebotomy. The Lead must be able to abide by and train to all SOP's and perform all responsibilities that are required of a Lab Assistant 1. Float between multiple Patient Service Centers and support the need of the PSC team. Assist the PSC Supervisor with the PSC phone and any outstanding task needing completion for the Patient Service Centers.
Job Responsibilities include:
- Train new staff and students and any remedial training of staff. In addition to all competencies.
- Maintain a compliant environment, including adherence to all lab and hospital procedures, HIPPAA standards and safety guidelines. Must make sure staff is following proper SOP's and filling in proper checklists.
- Infections control, proper screening of all patients, maintains hourly cleaning of all patient areas and draw rooms after completion of lab services.
- Keeps staff up to date on Lab technical bulletins, department specifics, health streams and communicates in a positive and respectful manner with patients and coworkers amongst all sites.
- Coordinates weekly staff assignments and monthly tasks
- Maintains adequate inventory and is proficient in ordering supplies.
- Urine Drug screen, special kits and BAT testing (Main Campus Only)
- Lead must be able to perform all job responsibilities that are listed on the Laboratory Assistant I job description
- Keeps Supervisor / Manager informed of all phlebotomy, registration and or personnel problems.
- Helps minimize butterfly usage throughout the PSC"s, maintains professional knowledge by participating in educational opportunities.
Physical Demands: May require light lifting (up to 10 pounds) and carrying supplies. Repetitive use of hands, sitting or standing for long periods of time (4-8) hours) is often necessary.
Education/Experience: High school diploma or equivalent and 2 years prior phlebotomy and 2 years Meditech / registration knowledge preferred
Additional Qualifications: Good written and oral communication skills preferred. Require ability to prioritize work manage and adjust changes in work volumes. Problem solving ability and attention to detail is preferred.
