JOB DESCRIPTION:
Performs the functions of a Medical Office Assistant in carrying out all assignments given by MD/PA, Nurse Practitioner/Licensed Practical Nurse in a safe, appropriate and timely manner. Promotes a positive atmosphere with the Health Center for patients, families, and co- workers. Responsible for continuation of patient care by performing scheduling of testing, consult referrals, obtaining insurance referrals, notification of test results to the patient and follow-up calls. Must perform functions of receptionist to assist in the overall operations of the Health Center, ensuring efficient patient flow and delivery of care. Functions to include, but not limited to, obtaining demographic and insurance information, consents, registration, electronic scheduling, chart preparation, retrieval of medical records, and filing. Requires insurance verification skills, billing and E Coding skills preferred. Requires excellent telephone and organizational skills.
EDUCATION:
High School or GED equivalency required. 6 - 12 months experience as a Medical Assistant or equivalent clinical skills required. Course in Medical Terminology/equivalent. Knowledge of coding systems ICD-10 and CPT-4. Experience/training in billing practices. PC computer skills: e.g. Microsoft Office, WordPerfect, etc. Effective communication skills and interpersonal skills necessary to interact with patients, staff, and other health care professionals and insurers. Previous Nurse Aid experience preferred.
