A Brief Overview
The Lead Access Coordinator is responsible for participating and facilitating daily business operations of their respective team, including patient intake, registration, scheduling, and insurance authorization.
The Lead must maintain the ability to handle requests from multiple sources and manage multiple deadlines across departments. This position requires a person to act as a troubleshooter and resolve issues as they arise and/or involve appropriate management personnel as needed. Must be committed to implement Enterprise initiatives such as "one call does it all" in order to provide the best patient experience.
What you will do
- Actively participates in scheduling/registration, and authorization processes on a consistent basis
- Assigns duties to appropriate staff to effectively assure proper handling of the following situations:
- Proper scheduling/registration and authorization procedures are followed
- Provide guidelines to staff for appropriate triage/customer service of all telephone calls
- Assures appropriate information is being collected and documented along all aspects of the process
- Serves as a liaison and problem solver for clinical staff
- Orients and trains staff, as needed
- Assures compliance with regulations and standards set forth by regulatory agencies
- Follows and monitors compliance with established hospital and departmental policies and procedures
- Promotes patient safety and quality initiatives through monitoring metrics and identifying opportunities for improvements.
Education Qualifications
- High School Diploma / GED Required
- Bachelor's Degree Preferred
Experience Qualifications
- At least five (5) years related experience Required and
- Previous experience in fast paced pediatric healthcare environment, Strong customer service experience; Medical insurance background; Advanced scheduling/registration experience Required
- Leadership experience Preferred

- Additional Technical Requirements:
- Individual must be organized, dependable, and able to make independent judgments.
- Excellent telephone and communication skills are required as is proficiency with computer systems and programs.
- Ability to multitask and prioritize is crucial to success in this position.
- Compassionate listening skills are required for family distress related to new diagnosis.
- Requires experience with and high commitment to customer service
- Skill in developing and maintaining effective relationships across disciplines and with medical and administrative staff, patients and the public.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent organizational, accountability, critical analysis and problem solving skills.
