General Responsibility:
Under the supervision of the Aviation Lieutenant or acting supervisor in charge, operate as pilot in command (PIC) in all aircraft owned and operated by the division. Flight operations include day and night visual meteorological conditions. Aircraft operations will primarily support the enforcement of the laws in South Carolina.
Specific Duties:
- Perform flight duties
- Maintain pilot proficiency
- Perform administrative task
- Assist in unit operations
- Must possess an FAA Pilot certificate with rotorcraft (helicopter) rating
- Must possess or obtain a current Class II medical certification
- Must possess flight experience in rotorcraft operations
- Must have the ability to obtain Class I Law Enforcement certification through the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy
- Knowledge of flight characteristics and systems of aircraft flown
- Knowledge of FAA regulations
- Knowledge of flight planning, air navigation meteorology and map reading
- Skilled in the operation of rotary-wing aircraft
- Ability to recognize abnormal an unsafe flight operations and to initiate actions to handle in-flight emergencies
- Ability to communicate effectively
