Planning & Development Services (PDS) strives to balance community, economic and environmental interests to ensure the highest quality of life for the public of San Diego County.
The Land Use Technician I will perform para-professional and technical work in providing information to members of the public, representatives of outside agencies, and County employees in regard to laws, codes, ordinances, and requirements that apply to the construction and use of structures and Land Use. Daily activities include working with the public to review the required paperwork and approvals so that construction permits can be issued. Attention to detail is important as this position works with internal and external customers.
HIRING TIMELINES & DATES:
  • Job Offer and Background Process begins in February 2024. Note: Current County employees may be excluded from additional background screening.
  • Pre-employment Medical Screening: Approximately 3 days following successful background investigation results.
  • Anticipated Start Date: Start date will be based upon successful completion of medical screening or other mutually agreed upon date.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  1. Two (2) years of full time paid technical experience in the areas of Land Use, architecture, zoning, planning, building inspection, surveying, construction, engineering, environmental studies, or a closely related field; OR,
  2. One (1) year of full-time experience as a Land Use Aide with the County of San Diego.

Note: The successful completion of two (2) years or 50 units of coursework offered by an accredited U.S. college or university, or a certified foreign studies equivalency in urban planning, geography, building inspection, construction technology, environmental studies, engineering, mathematics, or a closely related field can be used to substitute for the experience requirement listed above.

CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT:As part of the County of San Diego's pre-employment process, prospective candidates will undergo a background check (including fingerprinting) and a pre-employment medical screening prior to beginning County employment. EVALUATION:
The names of qualified applicants will be placed on a six (6) month eligible list based on scores received during the evaluation of information contained in their employment and supplemental application.
