Laboratory Technical Assistant - Surgical Pathology (Part-Time)

A Laboratory Technical Assistant (LTA) plays a crucial role in the Surgical Pathology Laboratory by providing support in specimen accessioning and grossing. This includes tasks such as organizing and processing specimens for analysis, including entering data into Epic. Additionally, the LTA is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and orderliness of assigned laboratory sections. In addition to specimen-related duties, the role involves washing glassware to ensure a hygienic and efficient working environment within the laboratory. Overall, the LTA contributes to the smooth functioning of the laboratory by executing essential tasks associated with specimen handling and laboratory upkeep. Hours: 08:00am - 04:30pm or 08:30am - 05:00pm, Wednesdays and Thursdays (2 shifts per week; 16 hours per week)
Work Locations : As needed, position may require coverage of more than one location in the local area ie Irvine (Lennar Foundation Cancer Center); training will be completed onsite in Irvine for first several weeks
As a successful candidate, you will:
- Assist in surgical gross room including, but not limited to, specimen pick-up, accessioning, labeling, staining, cryosectioning, harvesting of tissues, photography and general clean-up.
- Provide setup and assists with handling of specimens.
- Prepare solutions, reagents, and stains according to standard formulas and procedures. Fill specimen containers.
- Requisition laboratory supplies and maintain supply inventories as directed. Pick up supplies from Research and General storeroom.
Your qualifications should include:
- High School or equivalent Experience may substitute for minimum education requirements
- 1 year of experience in a laboratory environment
