Position: Assistant Technical Director

Position Summary:
The Assistant Technical Director will support the Technical Director in the operation, protection and maintainence of the LA Phil's technical assets in all of its performance venues, while also managing and overseeing various internal and external technical departments such as, but not limited to, lighting, audio, video, props and pyrotechnics and other special effects. The Assistant Technical Director will also support in maintaining each respective venues' Technical Packet and CAD drawings. Responsibilities will also include participation in the advance and execution of both LA Phil produced events and rentals and lease events in each of the venues.
Essential functions:
- Participate in the scheduling and execution of stage maintenance and improvement projects at Walt Disney Concert Hall, the Hollywood Bowl, The Ford, and Beckman YOLA Center; research/recommend improvement projects and determining logistics of implementing projects while working on constraints of a budget.
- Maintain and refine the LA Phil venue's Tech Packets, 2D and 3D drawings and be able to address technical questions from internal and external constituencies.
- Manage preseason production installation at Hollywood Bowl and The Ford such as: PA Audio system install, LED install, inspection/maintenance of turntable, acoustic baffling installation, lift system maintenance, annual safety inspections, etc.
- Support in the implementation of seasonal production contract agreements for sound and lighting design, video direction, projections and pyrotechnics.

- Have a deep knowledge of the LA Phil's 4 IATSE Collective Bargaining Agreements
- Create budgets for stagehand costs for various media projects, special events and future projects.
- Work with internal departments to create and manage systems to ensure compliance with IATSE contracts
- Manage union payroll across all venues
- Work with Lease Partners in determining technical requirements, stagehand and production needs. Provide final stage/production financial settlement to Lease Partners and Artists.
- Provide consultation, guidance, and general support to Production Managers on the technical workings of all LAPA venues and participate in production assessments on safety, budget and feasibility as needed.
- Manage all aspects of production planning for select performances.
- Share in department responsibility of managing all production and logistical arrangements for tours, both for personnel and cargo. Accompany Orchestra on tours as needed.
- Share in Production Management concert duty, including nights and weekends as necessary.
- Develop and maintain excellent working relationship with Music Director, Orchestra, stage crew, senior management, artists' managers, guest conductors and artists, outside vendors, all other departments in the Association.

Position Requirements:
- A minimum 4 years of relevant experience.
- Proven leadership and project management ability in the performing arts.
- Prior experience with IATSE union contracts required
- Extensive knowledge of current technology and trends in the areas of Audio, Lighting, and Video required
- Proficiency in AutoCad and VectorWorks required
- Proficiency in Rhino and Sketchup preferred
- Proficiency in and knowledge of camera systems and associated infrastructure, including livestreaming and digital/television broadcasting a plus
- Excellent computer skills, including Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint
- Ability to:
- Deal tactfully at all levels
- Focus on many projects simultaneously and to meet deadlines
- Work effectively in a highly collaborative and communicative team environment
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; attention to detail.
- Prior experience as a Stage Manager or Production Manager required
- Secondary language fluency preferred
