Position Overview:
- The Laboratory Services Associate Specialist supports the successful operation of facility, laboratory and business functions at multi-use sites through interaction with internal customers and external service providers.
- With direct supervision and limited autonomy, the incumbent in this role carries out routine tasks and functions impacting their functional area, and may participate in collaborative department efforts through assigned tasks.
- Work is focused on the completion of daily tasks with limited visibility to long term project work.
- The individual uses basic analytical skills to recognize potential problems, and may exercise some judgment to develop solutions to routine issues, but generally reports problems to solicit support from their immediate supervisor to team members.
- As a supporting team member, the incumbent interacts with their immediate supervisor and personnel within their own work group to achieve team goals while beginning to navigate and develop relationships outside the immediate organization.

- Provides site laboratory services to ensure optimal function, safety and condition at primary site; and may provide supplemental support to satellite sites, as needed
- Receive and verify incoming chemical and supplies
- Properly inventory, bar-code, deliver, and store chemical products and supplies
- Pick-up of properly packaged chemical and medical waste as required
- Ensure OSHA, NFPA, local safety and environmental regulatory compliance and security standards in the storage of chemicals and waste
- Maintain stocks of standard lab supplies, chemicals/reagents, gas cylinders, etc.
- Maintain cleanliness of all Laboratory Services areas, including waste areas, etc.
- Maintain and update MSDS records as required
- Perform spill clean ups of chemicals and other hazardous waste when required. Also perform decontamination processes
- Perform inspections of Emergency Showers, Eye Wash, spill kits, and various other safety points as required. Assist with implementation of corrective actions
- Participate in and maintain required training including but not limited to FDA, NJDEP/EPA, DOT/IATA, RCRA hazardous waste, and OSHA
- Pick-up, coordinate, package and prepare sample and chemical shipments
- Change out compressed gas cylinders and liquid gas dewars. Such as nitrogen, carbon dioxide, argon, air, etc.
- Minimum 1-2 years in the Lab Services, Facilities, Shipping and Receiving operations
- Must be able to work weekends and holidays as needed
- Experience in a GMP related environment is a plus
- Environmental Health and Safety Knowledge a plus
- Hazardous waste spill response and cleanup experience a plus
- Knowledge of DOT/IATA and other EHS related regulations
- Experience working in a laboratory environment, preferably in the pharmaceutical industry
- Good understanding of chemical safety information and storage, chemical and medical waste storage and EH&S procedures in the workplace
- Experience with shipping and receiving procedures, and reconciliation procedures
- Experience with compressed gas cylinders and Cryogenic liquid dewars
- Understanding of stock room and inventory processes
- Basic computer skills (Word, Excel, Microsoft Office)
- Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
- Work order and preventative maintenance system program knowledge a plus
- Resourceful at information gathering and self-sufficient
- Ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines
- Certifications in DOT, IATA, OSHA HazWOPER 24 or 40-Hour, Forklift, GHS, or other professional certificates a plus
