Job Description
· Documents all lab work per established guidelines for the department (such as electronic lab notebook or project files)
· Prepares basic samples, materials, equipment, and other required tools for laboratory tests or development.
· Plans projects after receipt including compilation of needed project materials.
· Performs basic technical tests, analyses, and research based on formulas and project requirements; tasks are more standard and require limited judgment within established guidelines.
· Completes appropriate forms and documentation regarding research and development processes, tasks, results, and conclusions; receives direction from other technicians or chemists on specialized or complex issues.
· Establishes time line for assignments based on priorities with assistance from their supervisor, identifies and resolves conflicts
· Writes basic reports, outline procedures used and results obtained
· Responds to standard questions and concerns from plants, research technicians, quality control, and other internal parties regarding product testing and related programs and services.
· Uses computer for basic inputting, communication, and data analysis· Demonstrates basic math skills to analyze data
· Cleans, maintains and calibrates standard equipment and maintains a clean and safe working environment. May oversee one or more equipment processes within the laboratory.
· Ensures compliance with department policies and procedures and applicable laws, rules, and regulations.
· Adheres to all applicable ISO guidelines, quality standards, and internal test methods/procedures and maintains all required certifications.· Requires independent project management skills and troubleshooting ability.
· Independently managing timelines and effective communication are crucial.
· Performs other duties as assigned.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
- FORMAL EDUCATION:
a) Required:
· High School Degree or equivalent
b) Preferred:
· High School Degree with 2 semesters General Chemistry
- KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE:
a. Required:
· Knowledge of basic math skills
· Computer knowledge for basic inputting, communication, and data analysis using Microsoft Software Applications
· Knowledge of basic paint concepts and property calculations.
b. Preferred:
· 5 or more years of experience in a laboratory
· 5 or more years of experience in coatings industry
- PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
· Must be able to sit, stand, hear, and see on a constant basis.
· Must be able to walk, write, and type on a frequent basis.
· Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
· Must be able to climb and descend stairs.
· Must be able to bend, carry, reach, push, and pull on an occasional basis.
· Must be able to communicate verbally and in writing.
· May work in areas where toxic, flammable, and hazardous materials are present.
· May be exposed to varying amounts of dust and dirt.
· Work surfaces may include concrete.
· Employee must be able to tolerate non-toxic paint odors and be able to wear a respirator as required.
· Employee must be able to operate a computer and communicate via telephone.
· May work in areas where noise level is such that hearing protection is required.
· Some travel to other locations, meetings and/or seminars is required.

Basic Qualifications:
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Must be legally authorized to work in country of employment without sponsorship for employment visa status.
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
