InVivo Biosystems is a small, growing biotech company that provides contracted research services to industry and academic researchers around the world. Working with microscopic worms (C. elegans) and zebrafish, we partner with organizations on their research journey to improve human health.
Reporting to the VP of R&D, the Lab Manager role plays an influential part within our business operations and engages in a broad array of activities touching every aspect of our dynamic company. The key attributes for this role are a "go-getter" attitude, and a willingness to grow, learn and adapt combined with a record of success in leading small teams.
The Lab Manager plans, organizes, and coordinates all daily operations of the laboratory; leads and develops management in the execution of laboratory responsibilities and standardization. This role also provides direct oversight and supports career development of lab technicians.
Reporting Relationships:
Reporting to the VP of R&D.
What you'll do:
- Teach and develop lab technicians to perform roles. Facilitate, audit, and attend daily team meetings. Coach and develop technicians to team meeting processes.
- Ensure a high level of quality throughout the laboratory is maintained. Ensure quality issues are investigated and countermeasures are implemented to prevent reoccurrence. Ensure abnormal conditions or quality issues are documented and reported. Ensure all requirements of applicable regulatory agencies (federal, state, local) are always satisfied.
- Provide input on the development of a long-range strategic plan relative to services, programs, human resources, capital needs and other resource requirements.
- Ensure annual operations plans with department goals, dashboards, key activities, timelines, and resource requirements are executed.
- Work with InVivo Biotech leadership to develop and implement annual operating and capital budgets. Ensure budgetary goals are met.
Required Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Biological Science, Medical Technology, or related field from an accredited institution) required. Master's degree is preferred.
- 5 years of manager or relevant leadership experience required.
- 5 years of operational support in a laboratory scientific setting.
- 5+ years of experience in managing multiple projects.
- Strong understanding of workflows in shared life science laboratories.
- Excellent cross-functional communication skills including an ability to partner and negotiate with partner labs, Scientists, and Senior Management.
- Highly organized, with a drive to actively improve process and workflows.
- Goal oriented with passion for independently working through defined goals and metrics.
- Highly collaborative with great enthusiasm for working across cross-functional teams.
- Able to navigate shifting priorities and rapid change calmly and positively.
- Desire to learn, grow and develop as the company grows.
Physical Requirements
- Able to work upright and stationary and/or standing for typical working hours.
- Able to lift and move objects up to 25 pounds.
- Able to work in non-traditional work environments.
- Able to use and learn standard office equipment and technology with proficiency.
- May have exposure to potentially hazardous elements typically found in laboratory environments.
