The Goddard School in Vernon Hills is looking to hire a dedicated and reliable Kitchen Assistant to support our school chef with prepping ingredients, assisting in the cooking process, delivering meals, and cleaning up the kitchen throughout the day to maintain a sanitary food preparation area. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, and able to multitask. The Goddard School kitchen team is responsible for preparing and serving 3 meals a day to our students, breakfast, lunch and an afternoon snack. Kitchen Assistant Responsibilities:
- Properly cleaning and sanitizing all food preparation areas according to established standards of hygiene.
- Washing and appropriately storing all cooking appliances, instruments, utensils, cutting boards, and dishes.
- Assisting the Cook with the preparation of meal ingredients, which includes washing, cleaning, peeling, cutting, and chopping fruit, vegetables, poultry, and meat.
- Sweeping and mopping the kitchen floors as well as wiping down kitchen walls.
- Assisting with the unloading of delivered food supplies.
- Organizing and correctly storing food supplies.
- Ensure food safety standards are met and followed
- Monitor food temperatures and quality throughout the cooking process
- Promptly transferring meal ingredients from storage areas to the kitchen as per the Cook's instructions.
- Ensure the safety of all children by tracking food allergies and communicating allergens to teachers during food delivery.
Kitchen Assistant Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED.
- Possess a Food Handler's License or willingness to obtain
- Previous experience assisting in kitchens preferred
- Must be able to follow instructions and adhere to food safety guidelines
- Knowledge of kitchen equipment and tools
- Ability to lift and carry items up to 50 pounds.
- The ability to stand for extended periods.
- The ability to work in a team.
- Organizational and time management skills.
- Effective communication skills.
- Able to work in a fast-paced environment and multitask
