Kitchen Assistant Job Description

The Goddard School in Vernon Hills is looking to hire a dedicated and reliable Kitchen Assistant to support our school chef with prepping ingredients, assisting in the cooking process, delivering meals, and cleaning up the kitchen throughout the day to maintain a sanitary food preparation area. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, and able to multitask. The Goddard School kitchen team is responsible for preparing and serving 3 meals a day to our students, breakfast, lunch and an afternoon snack.  If you have a passion for cooking and want to grow your kitchen skills while preparing and serving nutritious meals to our young learners this is the job for you! 

Kitchen Assistant Responsibilities:

• Properly cleaning and sanitizing all food preparation areas according to established standards of hygiene.
• Washing and appropriately storing all cooking appliances, instruments, utensils, cutting boards, and dishes.
• Assisting the Cook with the preparation of meal ingredients, which includes washing, cleaning, peeling, cutting, and chopping fruit, vegetables, poultry, and meat.
• Sweeping and mopping the kitchen floors as well as wiping down kitchen walls.
• Assisting with the unloading of delivered food supplies.
• Organizing and correctly storing food supplies.
• Ensure food safety standards are met and followed
• Monitor food temperatures and quality throughout the cooking process
• Promptly transferring meal ingredients from storage areas to the kitchen as per the Cook's instructions.
• Ensure the safety of all children by tracking food allergies and communicating allergens to teachers during food delivery. 

Kitchen Assistant Requirements:

• High school diploma or GED.
• Possess a Food Handler's License or willingness to obtain 
• Previous experience assisting in kitchens preferred
• Must be able to follow instructions and adhere to food safety guidelines
• Knowledge of kitchen equipment and tools
• Ability to lift and carry items up to 50 pounds.
• The ability to stand for extended periods.
• The ability to work in a team.
• Organizational and time management skills.
• Effective communication skills.
• Able to work in a fast-paced environment and multitask
