SUMMARY
The principal is responsible for all aspects of the building which include but are not limited to: instruction; curriculum; staff supervision and evaluation; staff development; student discipline; record-keeping; public relations; and maintenance of building and grounds.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
The Principal reports to the Superintendent.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Keeps or causes to be kept, accurate personal records for all students including cumulative records, grades and attendance.
- Keeps or causes to be kept, an accurate record of all monies received.
- Administers normal disciplinary measures in the school:
- Keeps all appropriate staff members advised of disciplinary measures.
- Keeps or causes to be kept, records on all disciplinary measures taken.
- Supervises non-certified personnel; including administrative assistants, clerks, custodians, nurses and paraprofessionals who work within the building. This will include making recommendations to the Superintendent for hiring, transferring, or termination of all such non-certified personnel.
- Supervises and evaluates all instructional personnel and provides assistance whenever needed.
- Makes recommendations of contract status, re-employment, or termination of contract for all instructional personnel.
- Supports curriculum changes and the implementation of curriculum changes.
- Keeps the Superintendent, Board of Trustees, school, and public informed of the education program in the school.
- Supports and implements Staff Development programs for all personnel.
- Supervises or causes to be supervised all student activities and programs within the school.
- Supervises or causes to be supervised all instructional staff in regard to health, safety, and welfare of students and employees.
- Performs other duties as assigned to include, but not limited to:
- Administration of field trips
- Supervising Student Activities
- School pictures
- Public relations
- District attendance duties
- Scheduling activities
- Serves as facilitator of dialogue between staff members in the school and between this staff and staff members of other schools in the district.
- Facilitates communications between staff members and the Central Office staff.
- Attends all administrative meetings and implements program suggestions or changes.
- Holds periodic meetings of all instructional staff to keep them informed and advised of duties, policies, and possible curriculum changes.
- Strives to create a climate of positive relations with and between all personnel in the school and between the school and home.
- Reviews educational practices, materials and curriculum and promotes the use of "Best Practices".
- Constructs a workable staff handbook to include information of staff, schedules, district policies, and other pertinent information.
- Constructs a workable student handbook to include school policies, district policies and other pertinent information.
- Screens requests for materials and supplies to determine the relationship of the materials to the program.
- Creates within the school a climate of freedom to allow staff members and students to develop and perform to the extent of their capabilities.
- Initiates and maintains a School Improvement Process consistent with accreditation requirements.
- Involves staff and parents in the accreditation process.
- Collects and maintains records and data required for accreditation and completes all required forms for the process.
- Uses appropriate software to communicate, track students and data, and complete forms.
- Knows and follows federal and state laws and district policies and regulations.
OTHER DUTIES
- Visits classrooms to observe teachers and students and monitor the teaching of standards, and gives feedback to facilitate growth.
- Attends and responds to district committee meetings.
- Supervises and evaluates extra-duty staff.
- Attends concerts and student-centered events.
- Acts as a liaison to other state and county agencies.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor's Degree
- Master's Degree
- Valid Wyoming PTSB Teaching Certification or the ability to obtain one
- Continued Professional Growth
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND MENTAL ABILITY
- Knowledge of curriculum and principles of learning.
- Knowledge of technology and computer software to track students and their progress towards standards.
- Ability to speak clearly and concisely.
- Ability to weigh options, think clearly, and evaluate accurately.
- Ability to understand and facilitate needs of various personality types.
- Ability to make decisions with sound emotional judgment.
- Understand the physiological development of children.
- Ability to develop a plan and make decisions to facilitate its fulfillment.

- Must be able to concentrate with numerous interruptions.
- Must be persuasive, alert, creative and have patience, initiative, and reasoning.

This job requires the ability to handle and balance multiple demands at the same time.
