For more than 140 years, The Family Partnership has built strong families, vital communities, and better futures for children. We fulfill our mission through counseling, education, and advocacy, primarily in the greater Minneapolis and St. Paul area. The Family Partnership was founded in 1878 as the Minneapolis Humane Society to protect and serve children that were being abused or exploited. Along with a few name changes, our work has continually transformed to anticipate and address the evolving needs of families and individuals, many of whom are the most vulnerable in our community.

Wages and Benefits

SCHEDULE

The MST Therapist will work intensively (minimum 3 sessions per week, conducted both in-person or virtually) with a small caseload (3-6 families) and a team of four therapists. The team of therapists cover the 24/7 on call schedule on a rotating weekly basis (each therapist typically has 1 week of on-call per month).

A Typical Day in the Life…

A typical day as The Family Partnership’s MST Therapist provides an opportunity to address practical barriers to parent/caregiver effectiveness by connecting with community resources, working with schools, or using dedicated funds to meet therapeutic goals. MST is an intensive in-home therapy with a “whatever it takes” approach to partnering with parents and caregivers to keep youth at home, attending school, and out of trouble with law enforcement. The MST program has been in partnership with the Hennepin County Department of Community Corrections and Rehabilitation (DOCCR) since 2010, as well as Health and Human Services (HHS). • Working in collaboration with Hennepin County DOCCR and HHS staff, MST team members and supervisors, family members, and schools.
• Providing clinically effective, family-based interventions designed to promote responsible behavior.
• Choosing and encouraging specific parenting interventions with the assistance of the MST supervisor and expert consultant.
• Working with family members to establish clear goals and actively work towards those goals.
• Tracking the progress of treatment and measuring success.
• Attending mandatory clinical supervision, consultation, and training sessions.

Who You Are

• You hold a master’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, or Marriage and Family Therapy, or have a related degree from an accredited school.
• It is preferable that you have experience with Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Structural and Strategic Family Therapy, and Behaviorally Based substance use reduction models.
• You demonstrate solid mental health clinical training and experience, motivation, flexibility, and situational awareness.
• You have the ability and willingness to provide home-based mental health services to parents/caregivers of youth aged 12-17 that are involved in the juvenile justice system.
• You have the ability and willingness to provide mental health case management and carry a caseload of four to six families.
• You have the ability and willingness to work creatively with families throughout the week, including meeting for evening sessions when needed, as well as providing rotating on-call support (24 hours/day, 7 days/week coverage).
• You are a skilled communicator with the ability to effectively interact with multiple stakeholders including probation, school staff, case management, and family members.
• You have the ability to work autonomously and manage your own schedule, while possessing a willingness to connect with team members and supervisors when support is needed.
• You have a valid driver’s license, access to reliable transportation, and the ability to meet TFP’s driving record requirements. Please note that if the license was not issued in the state of Minnesota, you have 60 days after becoming a Minnesota resident in which to apply for your Minnesota driver's license or permit (not applicable for new hires living out of state).
