The Junior Legal Specialist - Litigation role will include the following:
- Identifies, analyzes, and researches complex legal and business process issues;
- Provides recommendations on the law under guidance of attorneys;
- Communicates with internal business partners;
- Manages and prioritizes simultaneous projects in an efficient and timely manner within a fast paced, dynamic environment; and,
- Works closely with and under the supervision of responsible attorney and exercises independent judgment in escalating issues within broadly defined practices and policies.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide assistance with case management in conjunction with in-house and outside counsel - including performing factual and legal research, managing discovery processes, engaging with outside counsel, and participating in mediations and other court proceedings;
- Respond to subpoenas, government inquiries, and field requests - including collecting, reviewing and producing documents, negotiating scope, work with outside counsel when necessary;
- Contribute to pre-litigation dispute resolution efforts;
- Identifies key legal and business issues and reports up appropriately; and
- Project Management on key litigation initiatives.
Minimum Requirements
- 2 years AA degree and/or Paralegal Certificate with 4 to 6 + years related work experience, or 4-year degree with 2 to 6 + years' work experience.
Critical Skills
- 4+ years' experience in litigation and case management background
- Ability to be flexible and prioritize
- High competency with Microsoft Office, Office 365, and Net Documents or other document management system.
Additional Knowledge & Skills
- Experience working directly with internal client contacts (if at an outside law firm) or working in an in-house environment;
- Ability to work in teams;
- Effective, clear and concise written and verbal communication skills;
- Self-starter, ability to identify necessary tasks, plan projects and bring to completion;
- Strong attention to detail, organizational skills and ability to multitask;
- Ability to work effectively with internal and external clients and promote the reputation and integrity of the Law Department and McKesson; and
- Experience working in pharmaceutical and healthcare regulatory environment, or in another highly regulated industry, a plus.
