The Junior Accountant will be a part of the finance team and will support the accounting operations. The Junior Accountant will be responsible for performing various accounting tasks, such as purchasing requests, reconciling accounts, processing invoices, and assisting with audits. This position reports to the Director of Finance.
Duties and Responsibilities
The Junior Accountant performs a range of duties, including the following::
- AP/AR reconciliation: Review and process vendor invoices, employee expense reports, and customer payments. Ensure accuracy and timeliness of transactions and resolve any discrepancies.
- Reconcile benefit invoices: Verify and reconcile monthly benefit invoices from various providers. Ensure proper allocation of costs and payments.
- Purchasing: Assist with purchasing requests and approvals. Maintain vendor relationships and records.
- Credit card reports and account reconciliation: Prepare and review monthly credit card reports and statements. Reconcile credit card transactions with general ledger accounts.
- Journal entries including accruals and reclasses: Prepare and post journal entries for various accounting transactions, such as accruals, reclasses, adjustments, and corrections. Ensure proper documentation and approval of entries.
- Assist with AR: Generate and send invoices to customers. Follow up on outstanding balances and collections.
- Assist with audit: Prepare and provide supporting documents and schedules for annual audit. Respond to auditor inquiries and requests.
- Ad hoc reports: Assist with preparing and analyzing various financial reports as needed.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field.
- One to two years of relevant accounting experience, preferably in a nonprofit setting.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and experience with any cloud-hosted accounting system such as NetSuite, Sage Intacct, Financial Edge, or QuickBooks.
- Grant management experience a plus.
