Summary:
To work collaboratively with school personnel to develop and implement positive support plans for students with challenging behavior, provide support and professional learning to teachers, school staff, and instructional assistants in appropriate behavior intervention techniques. The BCBA is required to adhere to the Behavior Guidelines for Responsible Conduct.

Essential Functions:

- Provide leadership in the development, understanding and promotion of the educational objectives, curriculum and instructional strategies associated with effective programs for students with disabilities that are experiencing behavioral problems
- Develop material/resources and provide professional learning to administrators, educators, and instructional assistants in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), Competent Learner Model (CLM), and other evidence-based methodologies related to addressing the needs of students with challenging behavior
- Assist in determining the types of services needed to make recommendations through the implementation of appropriate assessment and evaluation techniques, such as conducting Functional Behavior Assessments (FBA) for the individual students and collaboration with the development of Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP)
- Assist in the management of behavior that is deemed safe
- Work directly with students who exhibit inappropriate behaviors and provide support and professional learning for staff that work with such students
- Provide training, professional development, and coaching on effective behavior interventions and strategies
- Provides leadership for and assists in the planning of in-service conferences, workshops, mini-courses and other activities designed to enhance program effectiveness
- Work with classroom teachers and instructional assistants to model effective behavioral and instructional programming
- Work with principles, teachers and other staff to promote the continuity of the programs serving students with disabilities that are experiencing behavioral problems, within and across schools in each participating division
- Supervise BCBA and BCaBA candidates within the assigned school division, as appropriate
- Collect data and prepare a variety of reports for the purpose of documenting case history and assessments
- Travel from site to site and participate in IEP meetings and other meetings as necessary
- Perform related duties as assigned
- Participate in and complete Competent Leader Model (CLM) coach certification
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:
To assess, develop, coordinate and facilitate the implementation of an instructional, behavior management and related services program that will provide an appropriate education for students identified with disabilities, including autism, that are experiencing behavioral problems.
Education and/or Experience:
Required Qualifications:
- Masters degree or higher in Special Education, Psychology or School Social Work from an accredited college or university
- Three years public schools experience in programs serving students with disabilities that are experiencing behavioral problems
- BCBA Certified
- Licensed Behavior Analyst (LBA)
- Demonstrate the leadership qualities and personal characteristics necessary for
working effectively with students, teachers, administrators, and parents.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Valid certification to meet State requirements with specific endorsement in special education
- Holds a certification in de-escalation and handling techniques (e.g. MANDT, CPI, Handle with Care)
- Experience with Structured Teaching and/or Applied Behavior Analysis
Physical Conditions and Nature of Work:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Duties performed typically in school settings to include but not limited classrooms, gym, cafeteria, auditorium and recreational areas. While performing these duties and responsibilities the employee is required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle or feel, reach with hand, and talk or hear: light lifting up to 40 pounds and other limited physical activities are required. Movement of students by wheelchairs and other mechanical devices may be required.
Evaluation:
Performance will be evaluated on the ability and effectiveness in carrying out the above responsibilities.
