Job Description:
The PPS Coordinator is responsible for the completion of the Inpatient Rehab Facility Patient Assessment Instrument (IRF-PAI) in compliance with CMS's Prospective Payment System (PPS). He/she is responsible for transmitting information to CMS within the timeline as defined in the Federal Register and for transmitting information to UDS for outcomes management. He/she is responsible for reviewing medical records to ensure appropriate team documentation occurs to support findings noted on the IRF-PAI and to meet medical necessity as defined by CMS regulations. He/she functions as liaison between the team, HIM personnel, and Patient Business Services to ensure accurate documentation, coding and payment. He/she manages/oversees and participates closely in all aspects of the IRU's performance improvement program, including outcomes assessment and reporting.
The PPS Coordinator reports to the Director of the Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit (IRU). A collaborative relationship with other IRU staff is also maintained.
Position Responsibilities
IRF-PAI completion, submission to CMS and UDS Understanding of CMS IRF guidelines, procedures, legislation, regulations, compliance Understanding of CARF standards, regulations, compliance Understanding of appropriate documentation for the multi-disciplinary team including H&P, D/C summary, case conference notes, pre-assessment screening, and daily documentation to meet CMS IRF compliance Manages/oversees and participates in the performance improvement program, including outcomes assessment and reporting Participates in arranging and maintaining clinical education pathways as needed by the IRU Pre-Admission Clinical Assessment of potential patients (including clinical documentation of those assessments) and review with Medical Director; serves as clinical liaison when the primary liaison is away.
Experience
-Minimum of 1-3 years in patient care in inpatient rehab and/or as a PPS coordinator (IRF or SNF).
-Analytical skills necessary in order to handle non-routine, moderately complex administrative details.
-Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
-Must effectively read, write, and verbally communicate in the English language.
-In-depth knowledge and experience using Word, Excel, Epic, data base, and graphics software in order to generate reports.
-Superior communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively and positively with people. Ability to show understanding, patience, and tact when dealing with patients, family members, physicians, staff, and the public.
-Ability to work independently, exercise judgment, follow instructions and maintain a high level of professional conduct.
-Ability to read and write in order to proof and edit non-routine correspondence, reports, tables, forms and the like for clarity, punctuation, spelling, grammar and typographical errors; draft correspondence, perform arithmetic calculations, and maintain efficient record-keeping and filing systems.
-Perform moderately complex administrative duties such as coordinating meetings and conferences.
Education
B.A. / B.S. required
Licensure/Certifications
Must be licensed as a current California RN or current California Occupational Therapist, Physical Therapist or Speech Language Pathologist.
American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS certification
Must be QI credential prior to the completion of 90 days of employment then maintained annually thereafter.
