Job Summary
Responsible for laying out and fabricating structural steel and sheet metal in order to build metal structures. Welds and cuts steel, Interprets blueprints.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Build and install iron or steel girders, columns, and other construction materials to form buildings, bridges, and other structures.
- Repair older infrastructure.
- Make, weld, and cut structural metal in the fabricating shops.
- Erect steel frames.
- Direct operation of cranes to move structure steel, and other materials onto and around the construction site.
- Connect steel columns, beams, and girders.
- Drill holes into steel for bolts.
- Number steel according to assembly instructions.
- Unload and stack steel.
- Attach cables to steel and then to crane.
- Hoist steel into place in the framework.
- Position steel with connecting bars and spud wrenches.
- Work with drift pins to align the holes in the steel with the framework holes.
- Use plumb bobs, levels, and laser equipment to check alignment.
- Bolt or weld piece into place. Install stairs, handrails, or curtain walls.
- Make sure all pieces are fitted properly and complete repairs as necessary.
- Shop work may be required on an as needed basis.
- Qualifications and Skills
- 3 + years of experience.
- Knowledge of operating machinery, certifications preferred.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with employees, supervisors, and the general public.
- Ability to communicate effectively.
- Ability to work independently with general instructions.
- Ability to perform heavy manual tasks under varying weather conditions.
- Ability to make independent judgement which have moderate impact on the company.
- Must have the ability for flexible work schedule which includes early morning hours.
- Must be ability to obtain a government security badge.

Pay: $23.00 - $30.00 per hour
