Ironworker

Job Summary

Responsible for laying out and fabricating structural steel and sheet metal in order to build metal structures. Welds and cuts steel, Interprets blueprints.

Responsibilities and Duties

• Build and install iron or steel girders, columns, and other construction materials to form buildings, bridges, and other structures.
• Repair older infrastructure.
• Make, weld, and cut structural metal in the fabricating shops.
• Erect steel frames.
• Direct operation of cranes to move structure steel, and other materials onto and around the construction site.
• Connect steel columns, beams, and girders.
• Drill holes into steel for bolts.
• Number steel according to assembly instructions.
• Unload and stack steel.
• Attach cables to steel and then to crane.
• Hoist steel into place in the framework.
• Position steel with connecting bars and spud wrenches.
• Work with drift pins to align the holes in the steel with the framework holes.
• Use plumb bobs, levels, and laser equipment to check alignment.
• Bolt or weld piece into place. Install stairs, handrails, or curtain walls.
• Make sure all pieces are fitted properly and complete repairs as necessary.
• Shop work may be required on an as needed basis.
• Qualifications and Skills
• 3 + years of experience.
• Knowledge of operating machinery, certifications preferred.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with employees, supervisors, and the general public.
• Ability to communicate effectively.
• Ability to work independently with general instructions.
• Ability to perform heavy manual tasks under varying weather conditions.
• Ability to make independent judgement which have moderate impact on the company.
• Must have the ability for flexible work schedule which includes early morning hours.
• Must be ability to obtain a government security badge.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $23.00 - $30.00 per hour
