Responsibilities
OCCUPATIONAL SUMMARY
Provides assistance to the physician & direct care to the adolescent, adult, and geriatric patient. Functions as role model tech, assisting physicians with various complicated interventional cases for optimal outcome. Contributes to work operational functions through schedule development, MD preference card management, and maintenance of supplies/equipment necessary for department.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Fulfills duties and responsibilities of GI lab Technician II with minimal leadership oversight.Assists in wide array of complicated interventional procedures such as EUS, ERCP, Lithotripsy, Spyglass, EMR, Barrax, Gastric Ballons, Esophageal Stents , Duodenal Stents, Axiol Stents, Bravos and Esophx.Trains staff in proper maintenance and minor repair of scopes and other equipment.Main preceptor for new tech staff teaching proper care and maintenance of scopes and orients staff to various skills and responsibilities needed to assist physicians in GI procedures. Orders and maintains par levels of GI specific equipment and supplies. Recommends equipment orders to leadership.With leadership team oversight, meets with equipment representatives to learn proper use of new equipment and procedures.Participates in Supply meetings to consistently evaluate new equipment and optimize physician satisfaction, patient safety and quality outcome.Coordinates GI Tech staffing and call schedules with Lab Manager oversight.Collaborates with CDS/CS to provide clinical experience and instruction to student programsCoordinates repair of endoscopic equipment with leadership and vendors and facilitates acquisition of loaner scopes when needed.Contributes ideas/suggestions and participates in activities for improving processes and services to patients and customers.Assists in the ongoing administration of hospital and department Quality Improvement program.Maintains a clean and safe patient care environment, and follows hospital and department policy and procedures. Practices proper safety techniques in accordance with hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Immediately reports any mechanical or electrical equipment malfunctions, unsafe conditions, or employee/patient/visitor injuryaccident to Manager.
Qualifications
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES/LICENSE OR CERTIFICATION REQUIRED
High School Diploma1 or more years of experience as a Interventional GI TechBasic Life Support (BLS)Gastrointestinal Technical Specialist (GTS) Certification Advanced Gastrointestinal Technical Specialist (AGTS) Certification within 12 months of start dateMust submit to a color acuity screening test
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES/LICENSE OR CERTIFICATION PREFERRED
Completion of accredited medical assistant course or - CNA/PCT Certification
- Certified Surgical Tech
