Helping Open Pathways to Education (HOPE):
When students can remain at their schools and receive the supports they need, they are more likely to be successful academically, have better peer and family relationships, and build confidence for a strong future. The Lincoln Families HOPE Program provides integrated behavioral supports for students, families, and schools to develop tools and learning environments for academic success across all levels:

  • Teacher Consultation: General support, classroom observation, and consultation with educators to maximize student achievement and reduce behavior problems.
  • Student Counseling: Intensive services to students whose emotional and behavioral needs are creating obstacles to their success at school.
  • Whole School Supports: Working with administrators in the integration of school wide culture initiatives and climate improvement strategies, and the facilitation of counseling groups that address common student issues.


POSITION SUMMARY: Reporting to the Intervention Specialist Supervisor or Program Supervisor, the Intervention Specialist (IS) is responsible for implementing high quality, comprehensive, strengths-based and individualized interventions to assist youth in working towards their individualized goals within their school, home and community. The IS collaborates with the Clinician, school staff and community resources to support youth building their skills. In an effort to disrupt the school to prison pipeline, Lincoln is committed to training staff to be attuned to systemic issues, implicit bias and successful alternative interventions that provide trauma-informed and culturally sensitive services.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Utilize a trauma-informed lens and a team-based approach to work with youth and families on issues related to the youth’s individualized treatment goals.
  • Develop and implement effective behavioral management techniques consistent with individualized goals and Lincoln’s philosophy; this includes developing and implementing behavior plans as well as developing and administering outcome measurements that ensure quality of service and implementation of individualized treatment plans.
  • Provide solution-focused counseling and crisis intervention to youth.
  • With the collaboration of the Clinician, the IS supports the youth in the milieu by helping them build on their social and coping skills.
  • Participate actively in all team meetings, staff meetings, individual and group supervisions and school meetings (IEP, SST, SART, etc.) as requested and collaborate proactively with treatment team to deliver quality mental health services to clients and families.
  • Co-facilitate therapeutic groups for youth throughout the school year.
  • Collaborate with school and community resources to develop a strong quality program for each youth.
  • Develop relationships and ongoing communication with teachers and other school staff; provide concrete strategies for positive and feasible individual and class intervention strategies that are in line with youth’s treatment plan and goals.
  • Initiate, plan and implement youth outings into the community in order to expose youth to a broad range of experiences and promote positive interactions with the community.
  • Work under the direction of supervisor and team leaders to provide on-going family contact and quality support services linking youth and family with well researched, relevant and affordable community resources and services.
  • Participate in development and implementation of summer programs, family events and cross-site projects (e.g., holiday gift drive, harvest festival).


POSITION REQUIREMENTS: Must have a conviction about the capacity of people to grow and change, a fundamental belief in the value of a nurturing family/community environment, a commitment to empowering others to solve their problems, and the ability to set appropriate limits; this combination of skills allows the IS to maintain capacity in a helping role and to intervene appropriately to meet service goals. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to establish a respectful relationship with persons served to help them gain skills and confidence. Demonstrated awareness of, sensitivity to and competence in dealing with cultural and socioeconomic diversity of client population. Good written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively with other staff and service providers.


EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Previous work experience in school-based or mental health setting preferred
  • Spanish speaking a plus, but not required
  • Must meet eligibility requirements to bill for Medi-Cal services
