The American Heart Association's Internship Program provides college students an opportunity for hands-on experience in various facets for individuals interested in gaining work experience with a non-profit, voluntary health organization.
Our Austin communications team is seeking an intern to support our work in public outreach, marketing, media communications, and community relations. Specifically, we are looking for an intern to help with video content to help bring the story of our volunteers and survivors to life.

Internship Overview:
  • Time Commitment: 20-25 hours per week
  • Internship Duration: 5/20/24 - 8/9/24
  • Hybrid position. Intern must be based in Austin,TX or the immediate surrounding area.
  • Salary: $23.00 per hour

Complete an internship that enriches your academic and professional resume as well as enriching your personal life by making a difference in the lives of others.
Responsibilities
Tasks could include things like the following:
  • Draft, produce, film and edit mission-focused videos highlighting community impact needs and work in Central Texas.
  • Ideate, film and edit mission-focused videos for posting on social media platforms.
  • Assist with local media outreach.
  • Attend key events and assist the communications director with communications and marketing duties.
  • Attend interviews at local media outlets (as applicable).
  • Assist the communications director with communications and marketing duties.
  • Help coordinate a plan for media/survivors for local events or campaigns.

Qualifications
  • Knowledge of variety of mass and alternative media, and principles of interviewing, writing and editing. Basic video, audio, and social media skills desired.
  • Demonstrated experience creating and delivering compelling, clear, and concise video content.
  • Intermediate to excellent proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
  • Basic knowledge of Canva and ClipChamp.
  • Demonstrated excellence in communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Experience interviewing thought leaders.
  • Demonstrated skills in effective one-on-one and group communications and comfort with working with all levels of community leaders, volunteers, and staff.
  • Proficient in multiple social media platforms.
  • Ability to deal professionally in a corporate or non-profit environment and assume responsibility for guiding projects and programs from inception through completion.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment managing multiple priorities involving multiple entities.
  • Required Equipment:
    • Reliable WiFi Connection
    • Reliable Transportation
    • Video camera and lighting equipment a plus
  • Minimum availability of 20 hrs/wk, 75% of those hours being M-F between the hours of 8:30am-5pm.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship, now or in the future. For any roles working remotely, the work must also be performed inside the United States, not in a foreign country.
