Group Summary
The Mechatronics, Mirrors and Lighting group specializes in automotive technologies that are driving the future of mobility. Combining a deep systems knowledge to develop unique vehicle access experiences, intelligent visions systems and advanced automotive lighting technologies, MML's expertise light the path to innovation, safety and styling.
Your Responsibilities
- Design and development of new products, features, and/or systems that intrgrates Advanced Lighting Technology into current and future OEM programs to ensure successful launches.
- Investigate, develop, and prototype new lighting concepts, processes, and applications that will raise the company's competitive position with the intent of commercializing the technology.
- Undertake engineering studies of new optical technologies applicable to automotive.
- Research through paper, internet, seminars, or any practical means.
- Determine regulatory framework applicable.
- Educate co-workers on developed technologies.
- Oversee or perform design work needed to build operational prototypes.
- Develop and implement best practices and lessons learned.
- Identify, budget, and procure required test equipment.
- Efficently design optical solutions with accurate performance and lit appearance.
- Benchmarks cutting edge optical simulation software.
- Incorporates industry regulations into sub-systems and full vehicle systems relative to development projects.
- Interfaces with Material Suppliers to establish advanced material(s) direction for the design and development of current and future products.
- Sketches concept ideas in order to facilitate and direct designers and support engineers on new product developments.
- Proficient in ASAP, Lucidshape, LightTools, Speos-Optis, or other Lighting Optical development software.
- Leads and mentors Junior Advanced Optical Engineers
- Directs prototype mock-ups in tooling and fabrication to ensure accuracy.
- Creates development DVP&R. Ensures the completion of critical testing to complete EVs/DVs as required.
- Suppots/Develops Project costs and timing constraints.
- Completes and maintains electronic and hardcopy development project books.
- Maintains awareness of current industry trends.
- Participates in periodic Technology Design Reviews.
- Identifies and pursues new product concepts for development through Benchmarking activites.
- Assists in the protection and execution of intellectual property (i.e. Patent Searches, Patent Disclosures)
- Provides ongoing technical support/direction throughout product life cycle to Platform Application Groups.
- Perform other duties as required.
Your preferred qualifications
- BS Degree in Engineering, four year degree, or equivalent experience
- Familiarity with light manufacturing processes
- Hands on mechanical capability
- Advanced computer experience including Catia, LucidShape, ASAP, and MS Office
- Advanced mathematics
- Programming development in Python, C, or C++
- Scripting for Design Tools (in Lucidsape, Grasshopper, etc.)
