East Bay Municipal Utility District (EBMUD) invites qualified applicants to apply for this Limited Term (LT) position (up to 2 years) in the Client Services (Service Desk) Office of the Information Systems Department. Assignments provide opportunity for Interns to apply Information Technology (IT) knowledge acquired through college coursework to a diverse set of business systems in a major water and wastewater utility. Successful performance requires the ability to demonstrate existing skills and learn new ones in a variety of areas such as PC network support, system software, audio/visual support, system enhancements, and communications. Interns may be rotated between assignments depending on the needs of EBMUD and the skills of the individual. Assignments typically include some independent work in addition to opportunity to assist professional and technical employees on specific projects. Knowledge of PC / laptop installation, maintenance and repair; software installation and problem resolution experience; basic knowledge of network (LAN/WAN) architecture and functionality; and A/V experience preferred.
Examples of duties include:
Installing new laptops, PCs, and printers.
Determining causes, and remedying malfunctions in hardware and software, including maintaining and troubleshooting PCs and printer on a LAN/WAN.
Assisting with iPhone/Multi-Factor Authentication and iPad setup .
Collecting technology assets for separating employees.
Disposing computer hardware, including asset management.
Assisting with basic hardware troubleshooting tickets.
Responding to requests to update internal employee directory.
Researching A/V (audio/visual) solutions for conference rooms.
Updating/creating A/V instructions for conference rooms and providing support as appropriate.
NOTE: The recruitment for this Limited Term position will not result in the establishment of a civil service list.
Requirements:
1. Recent graduation from a four-year college, preferably with a major in data processing, computer science, telecommunications, or closely related field; OR
2. Current college enrollment as a senior including completion of at least twelve units in Information Technology; AND
3. Completion of an EBMUD internship, college internship, or some work experience in an information systems environment comparable to EBMUD's Information Technology Intern I.
4. Must be able to work on site for the duration of the internship.
Must possess physical characteristics to perform the critical and important duties of the job. Must be willing to work overtime as needed. Duties may require maintaining a physical condition necessary for sitting, standing, or bending for prolonged periods of time.
