The Summer Nurse Extern program provides an opportunity for current nursing students, between their junior and senior year of nursing school, to receive training through clinical experience. The Extern will perform patient care procedures and related activities within the framework of the written care plan and assignment by the professional Registered Nurse. All tasks performed in this role will occur under the direction and supervision of a precepting UHS Registered Nurse. This is a nine-week program from May through July, 2024. Qualifications

Application Deadline:
For summer 2024, the priority deadline for applications is Thursday, February 15th, 2024. Placement in the program will not be made on a rolling basis prior to this point; the selection process will begin after February 15th, 2024. Completed applications received by this date will be given priority consideration for the 2024 program.
We may consider completed applications received after February 15th, 2024, if positions in the program are still available.
We intend to start contacting applicants with decisions starting March 15, 2024.
Education/Experience
Minimum Required:
- (1) A High School Diploma or GED
- (2) Currently matriculated in a two-year or four-year nursing program that leads to a Registered Nursing (RN) license
- (3) First year of nursing school clinical coursework completed
- (4) Minimum 3.0 GPA in nursing school
- (5) Ability to co-enroll in your nursing school's Externship Elective course
License/Certification
Minimum Required:
- Current CPR Certification that will remain valid throughout the summer, for the duration of the 10-week program
