About this Position:
"Total quality mindset" and effective "corporate social responsibility" are two key corporate goals of AHM. This job contributes to these goals by enabling the Tax Department to accurately report and pay its tax liabilities to various tax authorities and also to accurately report taxes for the benefit of internal and external stakeholders. This position enables AHM to meet its legal and regulatory requirements in order to be a "company that society wants to exist." The job contributes to the overall state and local tax compliance requirements and is an important contributor towards departmental business plan themes. This position involves coordinating tax technical projects related to Honda new business, new ventures, and organizational changes. This job is also collaborating with outside advisors to ensure that all Indirect Tax Projects, audits, returns, payments, reports, licenses, and various other work product are completed or made by all internal and external due dates.
Responsibilities include:
Provide support to ongoing Indirect Tax Projects and business plan themes, especially those that involve CASE and other new Honda business, new ventures, new ways of working, and expansion/changes of organization and business model.
Perform as the lead subject matter expert in two areas of critical importance for Indirect Tax and the Tax Division - i.e., the Ohio Commercial Activity Tax and the Washington Business & Occupation Tax - as these areas are highly-technical and require significant time in terms of tax analysis and audits.
Preparation and review of audit and compliance documents pertaining to sales/use tax, personal property tax, payroll tax, state unemployment tax, business licenses, annual reports returns, excise tax filings, audit support, and tax payments by assigned deadlines.
Research important sales/use tax issues; support tax technology updates for all Indirect Tax and accounting systems; support sales and use tax audits. Experienced with RIA Checkpoint and a proficient user.
Who we are seeking:
Required Work Experience:
7 years in multistate Indirect Tax role with a major multinational corporation, Big 4 firm, or equivalent
3 years of experience with Vertex, PTMS, SAP, and/or equivalent tax compliance and management software
Expertise in Microsoft Excel and some experience with PowerPoint
Required Education:
BA/BS in Finance, Accounting, Business, or related field (required)
CPA, Masters in Accounting, Masters in Taxation, (preferred)
Continual technical education in statutory and regulatory environment.
Desired Skills:
Highly organized, works independently and reliably.
Well-versed in multiple areas of Indirect Tax and tax technology.
Competent communicator, both verbal and written. Able to collaborate with others and coordinate projects effectively.
Additional Position Factors:
Significant overtime is required during quarterly financial statement closing events; able to work on highly complex issues during high-pressure, time compressed schedules; able to effectively work with external auditors in sometimes adversarial situations
Significant overtime may be required during budget and business planning events
Some travel is required, but not significant
