About the Banking Core Team

At Bangor Savings Bank, we are hiring a Midrange Engineer, at a Senior or Principal level, to join our talented Banking Core team. As part of this team, you will be critical to the successful management of the Bank's core hardware, software, and systems.
About the Role
As a full-time Midrange Engineer, you will assist in the ongoing support and oversight of the Bank's midrange systems, specifically the IBM Power system (formerly iSeries) hardware, Flash Storage array, and tape libraries. This position helps to create and maintain the Bank's library of RPG-based applications, and assists in the configuration and ongoing support of the Bank's Jack Henry core banking systems and software.
This role requires initiative, drive, and a strong work ethic. It balances functioning in a fast-paced work environment with exercising a strong attention to detail and working independently with collaborating in a team environment.
Additionally, a Midrange Engineer is responsible for ensuring our Banking Core systems are:
• Proactively managed for performance and system health,
• Aligned with the Bank's lifecycle standards and policies, and
• Installed in accordance with Bank policy and licensing agreements.

- Help maintain a high degree of midrange system availability at the Bank's Bangor data center and DR site.
- Design, develop, test, and maintain application software according to Bank policies and procedures.
- Analyze and troubleshoot application problems, escalating as appropriate.
- Design, develop, and maintain midrange applications and integration points.
- Provide outstanding customer service.
- Create and maintain accurate diagrams and documentation of supported systems and applications.
- Develop and maintain high levels of knowledge of Bank systems and software, and of the capabilities of those systems and applications.
- Maintain strong collaborative relationships across IT and the Bank.
- Assume the role of Solutions Architect within the context of the IT banking core systems and Bank business line projects involving midrange systems, providing technical expertise and guidance throughout the project lifecycle.
- Assist with the design, testing, and implementation of new hardware and midrange-related applications.
- Act as an escalation point to the Night System Operator.
- Develop and maintain Bank midrange systems best practices in accordance with business needs and industry recommendations.
- Stay abreast of new developments in the industry, especially relating to the Power system hardware, applications, and development.
- Keep a focus on security while conducting all aspects of their role.
- Create and monitor midrange system and application alerts, responding as needed to resolve outages and issues, including a regular on-call rotation.
- Play an active role in recovery exercises and annual DR tests.
- Participate in after-hours coverage as dictated by business requirements.
- Perform other Midrange functions as necessary.

What You Bring to the Table is...
- Expert abilities and experience with the following technologies: IBM Power (iSeries) Systems; IBM i Operating Systems; MIMIX replication software.
- Solid understanding of the following technologies preferred: Automation software (RPA); Fortra's GoAnywhere and Halcyon software; Web Services; Storage Area Network; DNS; DHCP; IBM KLM.
- Experience with Jack Henry Associates' Silverlake, Teller, and Passport banking software applications a plus.
- A four-year college degree or equivalent work experience; business experience and a graduate degree preferred.
- Relevant technical certifications.
- 3-5 years of related and relevant employment experience.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- A clear customer service orientation.
- Strong analytic abilities.
- Strong documentation skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office and Visio.
- Experience working successfully with third parties and vendors.
- The desire and ability to maintain knowledge and skill currency.
- The ability to successfully participate in team endeavors.
