Statement of the Job:

The purpose of this position is to design, integrate, and implement research software tools required for the access of large-area advanced manufacturing data, the design of multi-process manufactured parts, and data exploration and analytic tools including ML and AI platforms. The position responsibilities are technically broad and may involve the data engineering to and from robotics/IIoT/Industry 4.0 data sources, web and cloud technologies, CAD/CAM 3D modeling for the construction and marine industries, and high-performance computing (depending on experience). In addition, a successful applicant will help develop new initiatives in research software at the ASCC as well as interact with University of Maine faculty and students and external ASCC partners. Work will be performed at either the Advanced Structures and Composites Center in Orono, Maine or at the satellite office in Portland, Maine. Typical hiring range for this soft-money funded position is up to $125,000 commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • M.S. in related computer science, software, engineering, material science, physics, or a related discipline.
  • 5-7 or more years of relevant professional experience.
  • Significant experience in some of the following areas: computer science, software engineering, database technologies, web technologies, streaming data, CAD/CAM, IIoT, manufacturing automation, robotics, 3D printing, advanced composites.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and meet constant deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact with industry members.

Preferred:

  • Ph.D. in related computer science, software, engineering, material science, physics, or a related discipline.
