Job description

The Life Cycle Engineering Department supports the design, construction, and test of in-service Navy DDG 51 and DDG 1000 Class surface combatants in multiple locations around the world. This position supports the DDG 51 Class Planning Yard Combat System/C4I Program.

 

The scope of responsibilities includes, but is not limited to:

  • Review of ship alteration SIDs, Liaison Action Requests (LAR), and Reverse LARs, for impact to C4I Patching and Switching (Switching Center, Patch Panel, Port Concentrator Unit, etc), requirements, and develop GSO compliant patch panel design.
  • Provide Patching and Switching requirement support to the fleet, PY home port teammates and RMC’s during ship availabilities.
  • Review 2 Kilos for Patching and Switching impact.
  • Review assigned Patching and Switching Functional Engineering Analysis Requests (FEARs) and provide responses that support SID schedules.
  • Maintain repositories of new construction Patching and Switching configuration and update to suit specific modernized ship configurations.
  • Manage Configuration of COMM Cabinet’s PDP labels.
  • Interface with all PY supervisors, engineers, work leaders, designers in the local office and at PY’s offsite locations.

 


  • High School Diploma or GED required.

  • BIW Graduate Apprentice (Design or Production) or demonstrated requisite technical experience required.


  • Familiarity with Design of US Naval Combatants.
  • Demonstrated familiarity with shipboard construction.
  • Familiarity with shipboard HM&E systems required. Working knowledge of electrical systems with an emphasis on C4I Patching and Switching and Comm Cabinets PDUs desired.
  • Ability to read, understand, and interpret diagrams, schematics, blueprints/drawings, and equipment technical manuals required.
  • Demonstrated strong attention to detail with proven ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • In support of work scope, ability to obtain security clearance required.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities and meet schedule demands required.
  • MS Excel and MS Word skills required, proficiency using MS Access desirable.
