Black Family Development, Inc. (BFDI), headquartered in Detroit, Michigan, is a 501©3 organization, founded in 1978 by the Detroit chapter of the National Association of Black Social Workers. Our youth- focused, and family-centered organization provides services in Detroit, Wayne County.
BFDI is a CARF accredited, licensed, comprehensive human services organization committed to serving all persons, while specializing in evidence-based counseling, treatment, and advocacy for persons of color. Agency programming includes early childhood resources and literacy development, a 3-tiered juvenile justice service array, mental health prevention and treatment, substance use disorder prevention and treatment, boys and young men of color supportive resources, school-based intervention, and trauma-informed care. Most importantly, our staff are heroes who strive to match passion for service with equal parts best practice to partner with families to achieve their goals.

Our organization is seeking a Full-time positions with the corresponding education/experience requirements:
Human Resources Generalist I
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Human Resources (HR) Generalist I supports management-level staff and performs a variety of tasks for Black Family Development, Inc. The primary duty of an HR Generalist I is to collect and manage all data pertaining to Black Family Development, Inc., employees. The HR Generalist I is also involved in the recruiting, hiring, on-boarding training, orientation, retention, exit interviewing, and off boarding of employees
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide administrative HR department support for HR Director and BFDI executives in the execution of personnel matters.
- Assist with recruiting eligible candidates by posting job ads on career pages and processing received resumes.
- Input staff data in ADP based on the Exempt/Non-Exempt Classifications.
- Bi-weekly reconciliation of staff PTO balances.
- Assist HR Director with Developing Policy and Procedures.
- Assure that BFDI remains CARF Complaint.
- Create personnel data trend reports for senior management.
- Organize, compile, update and file company personnel records and documentation.
- Maintain personnel records according to the standards expected by funding sources in preparation for annual audits.
- Manage and update HR databases with different information such as new hires, terminations, sick leaves, warnings, vacation and days off.
- Prepare and submit responses to unemployment claims.
- Monthly billing reconciliation of company benefits i.e. medical, life, and STD.
- Ensure records are up to date within the 401k and benefit websites monthly.
- Help in payroll management, preparation and payment.
- Prepare, manage and store paperwork for HR policies and procedures.
- Maintain schedule and coordinate calendar activities.
- Answer telephone calls and provide needed information.
- Help organize and manage employee orientation, on-boarding, and training programs.
- Complete background and credentialing checks necessary to screen employee candidates.
- Provide HR orientation to new employees

QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor of Science in Human Resources or similar relevant field.
- 2-5 years post degree of continuing working experience as an HR Generalist without gaps in employment.
- Familiar with researching the Society of Human Resource Management updates.
- Ability to effectively use computer software including Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and HR software.
- Knowledge of HR software (HRIS or HRMS and Recruitment Marketing platforms).
All candidates must demonstrate strong computer literacy, strong documentation and oral communication, ability to work effectively as a member of a multidisciplinary team.
