Job description

Summary: The purpose of this position is to work proactively with the Human Resources Manager in the implementation of Human Resources strategies, initiatives and policies. The Human Resources Coordinator will work in conjunction with the manager and when required act in their absence as appropriate. An integral part of this position is the development of sound working relationships with all employees within the plant to promote a culture that values operational excellence.

Essential duties and responsibilities:

  • Provide input and expertise in the development and implementation of progressive Human Resources practices, processes and programs as part of the Human Resources team.
  • Assists managers and supervisors in the interpretation of the collective agreement to ensure adherence and advises in appropriate resolution of employee relations issues.
  • Maintains knowledge of legal requirements and government reporting regulations affecting Human Resources functions and ensures policies, procedures, and reporting are in compliance.
  • Works in conjunction with Human Resources Manager to develop and administer HR budget.
  • Assists Human Resources Manager and plant management in the recruiting process.
  • Plans and conducts new employee orientation program to foster positive attitude toward company goals.
  • Maintains SAP that supports the information needs of plant management and the operational excellence initiatives.
  • Maintain employee files to ensure they are current.
  • Compiles, analyses and assists in the preparation of reports to provide plant management with information on issues such as overtime, demographics, absenteeism, WSIB, disability claims.
  • Prepares and submits month end and year end reports as requested.
  • Collaborates with Health & Safety coordinator to support and promote awareness of the health and safety programs.
  • Coordinates or schedules all aspects regarding training delivery. This may be done in conjunction with other internal or external personnel.
  • Provides support to ensure performance management program is completed on time.
  • Coordinates employee relations functions e.g. recognition, safety and social.
  • Enhances community relations through coordination of corporate donations, event participation and amicable communication.

Education and/or Experience: Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, collective agreements, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public
