Department: SoC Administration Salary/Grade: EXS/8 Job Summary: The successful candidate develops and administers the staff human capital processes, transactions, tracking and reporting, and education, of the School of Communication. The manager coordinates human resources processes by working in partnership with the departments and central human resources to facilitate hiring, job descriptions, job postings, and routine mid-year adjustments. The successful candidate will be interested in advancing employee professional development and training to ensure organizational development and effectiveness and advancing a diverse, inclusive, and equitable workplace.
The manager administers the Performance Excellence program school-wide, educates departments on processes, convenes a working group to refine and improve employee evaluation and engagement. The manager will work closely with other departments and leadership including the academic departments, the Wirtz Center, administrative departments, the financial departments, the Chief of Staff, and the diversity, equity, and inclusion groups to assure best practices in human resources administration. The manager will assist with employee satisfaction projects including surveys and other programs.
The manager will work with NU Human Resources to implement the school plans in accordance with HR policies and the school's vision and planning. Specific Responsibilities: Facilitates and coordinates recruitment initiatives and implements plans to achieve and build a diverse, inclusive, and effective staff. Manages the school portion of the recruiting processes in partnership with the departments.
Collaborates with departmental hiring managers to create, revise, and post openings. Works within the School to collaborate with the Chief of Staff's office, the Director of DEI, and the departments to implement diversity, equity, and inclusion policies and practices. Completes workforce-planning scans and surveys.
Works with departments to manage the search process, supporting hiring managers with their needs for candidate selection, reference checking, and new employee onboarding. The manager administers the staff Performance Excellence program school-wide, educates departments on processes, convenes a working group to refine and improve employee evaluation. Runs the annual performance calendar from goal setting to final evaluations.
Produces reports and tracking on employment attributes and employee satisfaction and engagement. Serves as a resource to managers school-wide on staff employee relations issues, including but not limited to position reviews, performance management, leaves of absence, accommodation, etc. in partnership with NUHR.
Assures compliance with other university reporting requirements. Works with the finance departments on hiring salary levels and routine mid-year salary and equity adjustments. budgets, reconciles budgets against actuals, tracks variances due to staffing changes.
Collaborates with managers on initiatives and budgets in HR-related areas, such as recruitment and professional development. Implements and tracks recommendations for staff professional development, leadership development, and training. Promotes staff training, coordinating school departments and other NU offices to assure incoming and continuing staff have access to and are availing themselves of appropriate learning resources.
Identifies and facilitates access to campus resources intended to support staff performance and development. Creates materials to guide training efforts and initiatives. Tracks employee onboarding and records, tracks employee offboarding, provides recurring reports to various constituencies.
Communicates with departments and constituencies regularly about programs, initiatives, policy changes, and general information. Ensures consistency and accuracy of information delivered to all employees. Provides assistance and training to managers who hire, process appointments, compensation, or issue non-compensation payments such as honoraria or contracted services payments, through the Payroll system or the purchasing system as applicable.
Other duties as assigned Minimum Qualifications: (Education, experience, and any other certifications or clearances) Bachelor's Degree in Business, Human Resources or other related field. Three years' experience in a complex organization with demonstrated ability to apply HR Principles, particularly in recruiting/staffing, employee relations, training, development, evaluation, and management practices. Knowledge/experience with diversity recruitment, onboarding, and retention practices.
Knowledge/experience with organizational development, organizational effectiveness, and change management skills. Displays emotional intelligence in interactions with others. Ability to work in a highly collaborative manner.
Ability to work in a team across units to advance a diverse, inclusive, and equitable work environment. Well-developed analytical and reasoning skills. Excellent communication (listening and speaking) and presentation skills are essential.
Demonstrated facilitation and negotiation skills. Ability to exercise sound judgment and discretion in handling confidential and sensitive information. Preferred Qualifications: (Education and experience) Master's degree in human resources, higher education, business administration, organization development, or related field.
Experience in higher education administration or closely related field. Demonstrated experience creating training and staff development activities. Demonstrated experience managing merit processes.
Target hiring range for this position will be between $67,978 - $85,000 per year.
