Reports to: Building Principal
CTE Health Science Education Teacher (High School)
SALARY GRADE: State Salary Schedule
NATURE OF WORK: Provide direct instruction to students, help students to learn the subject matter and skills that will contribute to their development as mature, able, and responsible adults. A teacher performs his/her duties under the supervision of, and reports to, the principal. Possible courses to be taught are Health Team Relations, Health Science I and II and Nursing Fundamentals Honors.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Additional Duties may be assigned.

• Teaches District approved curriculum
• Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated
• Plans a program of study, employing a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students
• Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students
• Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities
• Assists the administration in implementing all policies and rules
• Encourages students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior
• Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and, in harmony with the goals, establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects and the like to communicate these objectives to students
• Assists in diagnosing the learning disabilities of students, with the assistance of district specialists
• Evaluates pupils' academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records and prepares progress reports
• Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations
• Is available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
The Health Science position at the high school provides students with meaningful instruction for and about health care careers. The position is designed to prepare graduates as viable competitors in the health care industry and for advanced educational opportunities. Possible courses to be taught are Health Team Relations, Health Science I and II and Nursing Fundamentals. Teacher will prepare students for Health Science related certifications and credentials. Literacy and numeracy skills are an integral part of the Health Science program. Development of 21st century skills including collaboration, critical thinking, economic literacy, entrepreneurial skills, and problem-solving is a part of each of the career pathways. Opportunities to develop and apply leadership, social, civic, and health care skills are provided through Health Occupation Students of America (HOSA), the Career and Technical Student Organization for Health Science Education. Integration of the Health Science program with appropriate academic concepts/courses is strongly encouraged.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and deliver instructions. The employee frequently is required to walk and use fingers, tools, or controls. The employee is required to reach with hands and arms. Occasionally the employee will lift up to 50 lbs. such as to lift files and paper.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

• Eligibility: Must have or be eligible to hold a Health Science teaching license (720-RN, 721-Non-RN, or 722
  Biotechnology).Related degrees include but not limited to: physical therapy, physician assistant, physician, athletic training, health education, respiratory therapy, occupational therapy, emergency medical care, radiology, paramedic, etc.

EVALUATION:
Performance in this position will be evaluated regularly by the supervisor in accordance with Board Policy.
