Telework Information: This position is eligible for hybrid work schedule, with up to two days of remote work and three days or more onsite, per week.

CalPERS seeks an Associate Accounting Analyst or Accounting Analyst in the Financial Reporting and Accounting Services Division, Health Accounting Section.

The incumbent will compile, review, analyze and record approximately $6 billion in medical and pharmacy claims, capitation payments, rebates, subsidies, and administrative expenses and fees to the General Ledger (GL) in the PeopleSoft Financials Accounting System (PSFAS). Analyze and reconcile monthly financial accounts to ensure general ledger account information is accurate, consistent, traceable and auditable between PSFAS, myCalPERS, accounts maintained by the State Controller's Office, various databases and third-party administrator. Independently resolves the accounting problems related to reconciliation of the Public Employees' Contingency Reserve Fund (CRF) and the Public Employees' Health Care Fund (HCF). Provide program financial information, balance sheet and income statements to various programs by gathering information from various databases. Leads and/or participates as representative on behalf of Health Accounting on various myCalPERS automation projects to ensure system financial and health accounting impacts are assessed. Performs mid-year and year-end tasks including adjusting/closing entries for the preparation of the annual financial statements and providing required Prepared by Client (PBC) to the external auditor.

Working Conditions

  • This position is designated office centered and works primarily onsite at CalPERS Headquarters, at least but not limited to, three days per week.
  • Must be able to work Monday - Friday between the hours of 8am - 5pm

Special Requirements Statement of Qualifications

The SOQ must be typed, titled "Statement of Qualifications", and each statement must be numbered and answered listing all relevant experience, education, and training, including places of employment, dates, and duties performed.
The SOQ must not exceed two pages in length and must not have font smaller than 12 point and address the following:
  • Describe your experience in reconciliation of complex health financial data utilizing automated accounting system and multiple data sources.
  • Describe your experience in applying technical methods to improve the processing, analyzing and validating of accounting data.
  • Describe your experience in research, analysis and auditing of accounting transactions from a data source/system that are impacting general ledger accounting entries in a financial system.
  • Minimum Qualifications
    All experience and education relating to the Minimum Qualifications (MQs) listed on the Classification Specification should be included in your application package to clearly demonstrate how you meet the MQs for this position.
