The Wellness Resource Center provides health promotion and prevention programs and services for undergraduate and graduate/professional students on a large, diverse university campus. Situated within Student Health & Well-Being, the WRC works closely with Counseling Center and Student Health Center professionals to provide a wide range of opportunities for students to assess their well-being, develop effective strategies, and think critically, so they can enjoy thriving well-being. Our staff collaborate with campus partners, student organizations and students to develop and implement effective programs and services.

Job Description


The University of Missouri’s Wellness Resource Center seeks a motivated, enthusiastic well-being advocate to serve as a Health Educator. This position plays a pivotal role in enhancing student health and well-being within the university. This multifaceted position serves as a catalyst for creating a healthier, more informed, and supportive campus environment by promoting all aspects of student well-being. A successful candidate will have a passion for well-being, exceptional interpersonal skills, and a desire to help students succeed.

Essential Functions:

  • Conduct small group and 1-1 education sessions with students around alcohol, cannabis, and nicotine.
  • Collaborate with the Office of Student Accountability and Support to implement evidence-based interventions for AOD violations on campus.
  • Assist the Mizzou Partners in Prevention (MIZ-PIP) coalition, comprised of campus and community stakeholders, to develop AOD strategic priorities and environmental strategies.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive strategy to increase the health and well-being of Mizzou students, including alcohol, nicotine, and Other Drug (AOD) use and misuse, utilizing national best practice guidelines and contemporary research.
  • Use current research and best practices to develop collegiate recovery services for students in recovery from substance use.
  • Use relatable, evidence-based approaches to help students navigate their health behaviors and habits to reduce risk and increase positive health outcomes.
  • Plan, develop, implement, and evaluate educational programming, including outreach efforts, workshops, and trainings, including AOD topics.
  • Provide consultation and training to professional staff within the campus community on health and well-being issues.
  • Identify innovative projects, marketing campaigns, and communication approaches to include social norms to create a healthier campus environment.
  • Coordinate large programs, events, and trainings.
  • Works closely with the Division of Student Affairs Marketing and Communications staff to develop and execute a communication plan for population level prevention messaging and outreach opportunities via social media and Other avenues.
  • Communicate and utilize the data to inform partners and programs.
  • Work collaboratively with staff of the Wellness Resource Center and Student Health & Well-Being.
  • Serve on committees and Other task forces as assigned.

Shift


Full-time, Flexible scheduling

This position may require evening and weekend hours supporting activities and programs within the department or division. Your core responsibilities will require a total commitment of 40 hours per week, but you will have the freedom to determine your daily start and end times to accommodate your personal needs and preferences, as well as the operational demands of the position. This unique work arrangement allows for a healthy work-life balance while accommodating the specific needs of our students.

Minimum Qualifications


A bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 2 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.

Preferred Qualifications


  • Experience working in a college health setting.
  • Master’s degree in health promotion, health education, public health, or a related field.
  • CHES or MCHES certification.
  • Excellent written & oral communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse student populations.
  • Strong organizational and program management skills.
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Experience designing and implementing best practices prevention strategies.
  • Demonstrated success coordinating large programs, events, and trainings.
  • Strong understanding of youth culture and trends.
  • Experience informing marketing and social media campaigns and initiatives.
  • Experience with data collection and analysis.
  • Knowledge of current research related to AOD-based practices.
  • Experience, certification, or training in Motivational Interviewing, Brief Alcohol Screening, and Interventions for College Students (BASICS), and/or iCHAMP.
  • Training or experience with Alcohol Skills Training Program (ASTP).
  • Experience working with a collegiate recovery program.

Anticipated Hiring Range


Salary Range: $50,367-$65,000

Grade: GGS-9E
