Job Description
The Entertainment Community Fund (formerly The Actors Fund), a nationwide human services organization that helps all professionals in performing arts and entertainment, seeks a Health Benefits Specialist to provide telephone and online consultation to consumers in the arts and entertainment community about how they can find, enroll in and best use health insurance and health care programs. The Health Benefits Specialist will assist the consumer in enrolling in various health insurance programs, including Qualified Health Plans on CoveredCA, Medicare supplemental/Advantage/D plans, MediCal, and direct purchase plans with carriers, as well as refer uninsured clients to appropriate health care resources. This is an opportunity to support the creative arts community and help them access affordable healthcare in a changing landscape. This is a hybrid position with the expectation of working in the Los Angeles office two days per week and remotely from CA the other three days per week.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The Health Benefits Specialist helps the consumer identify their health care and insurance needs and matches them to resources. The Specialist will educate and counsel clients on health care coverage from their home office via phone, email, and Zoom meetings, and provide enrollment and renewal assistance for insurance programs such as Qualified Health Plans on Covered CA, Medicare supplemental/Advantage/D plans, MediCal, and direct purchase plans with carriers. This individual may research health care resources as needed. The Health Benefits Specialist maintains timely case records using case management software.
The Health Benefits Specialist focuses on the consumer’s needs by guiding them through the benefit application process and working to overcome obstacles that are in the way of their accessing health insurance and health care. A focus of this position is interpersonal communication and consumer education. The Specialist also advocates for the consumer with state systems and troubleshoots when problems arise.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Health insurance agent or broker’s license in California
- Minimum of 5 years of related insurance industry experience, or the equivalent experience providing assistance with health insurance enrollment, consumer advocacy or case management.
- Computer literacy, including ability to use Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, CalHeers, Covered CA systems, Medicare.Gov, Zoom, ability to perform internet searches, and basic data entry skills.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- Extended hours will be required during peak enrollment periods (November 1 – January 31).
PREFERRED QUALITIES
- Experience assisting consumers in CoveredCA and Medicare enrollments is strongly preferred.
- Interest in the arts and entertainment industry is a plus.
ABOUT THIS POSITION
This is a full-time, non-exempt, hourly, temporary position (ending November 30, 2024), based in The Entertainment Community Fund’s Western Region office in Mid-Wilshire Los Angeles. . This is a hybrid position with the expectation of working in the Los Angeles office two days per week and remotely from CA the other three days per week.
