The Case Manager I - Benefits Specialist facilitates a client’s access to public benefits and programs supported by funding streams other than the Ryan White Program. The focus is on assisting a client’s entry into and movement through care service systems outside of the Ryan White Program-funded service delivery network. The primary responsibility of the benefits Specialist is to ensure that their clients are receiving all the public benefits they are eligible for.
Reports to: Program Manager / HIV Program Administrator
Qualifications:
1. High School Diploma or General Educational Development (GED).
2. Two years of related HIV benefits experience is preferred. Must be HIV knowledgeable.
3. Must be able to relate to a variety of individuals from all walks of life, including ethnic, gender, sexual orientation, age, and diverse backgrounds. Ability to work with populations impacted by HIV (gay males, IDUs, etc.).
4. Effective verbal and written communication skills to communicate clearly and effectively with patients and others.
5. Sensitivity to the different cultures represented among patients and staff.
6. Demonstrated ability to listen and communicate with others in a professional and caring manner, including sensitivity to individuals from diverse cultures and lifestyles.
7. Demonstrated ability to set priorities for tasks to work effectively in spite of interruptions and under minimal supervision. Self-starter, reliable, and dependable.
8. Fluency in English (speaks, reads, and writes).
9. Fluency in Spanish (speaks, translates, reads, and writes).
10. Ability to solve problems and make routine recommendations.
11. Ability to maintain absolute confidentiality about health care and other patient/client information.
12. Current California driver’s license, appropriate insurance coverage, and a driving record acceptable to the NEVHC’s insurance carrier (if required to drive on the job).
